I'd hate to cause any undue cockiness or self rightousness but just last week I actually was wondering if one of these bike to ski TRs was in the works this year...nice stuff and great write up too. Though hard to believe a local mtn guide hadn't climbed Darwin 30 times by now.

Last weekend I watched a guy put his skis tip between the shoulder support strap and main shoudler harness and lay the rest across his shoulders for a short rock scramble leaving his hands w/ just poles. Took abotu 5 seconds. Actually looked resonably comfortable and well balanced for slightly longer walks that might not justify stopping to strap the skis to your pack.

Thanks all for the props. I'm still feeling it and my pre-arranged mountain adventures are taxing- Whitney yesterday, skiing at Tioga Pass tomorrow... Rest is on the horizon after a big mission monday.

Re: the summit block... I climbed it "free" on the way up, but resorted to pulling on a conveniently rigged fixed sling for the downclimb.

Do you carry your skis on your back or your Bob trailer?

Everything in the trailer. The skis just stick out the back.

What do you do with the bike, trailer, extra shoes, etc. while you're off up the trail? Ever had any trouble, or is this just a city guy's question?

Cable lock the bike and trailer to a tree, leave the shoes and bike shorts sitting there... never had a problem. Though we have had bikes stolen from our house in Bishop and there was all that weird trailhead vandalism last year.

new referee ruling: play counts, assuming addition of A0 to total route rating and description

excellent work mr porter. and in great time as well! transition time is everything. you don't have to be fast to go fast. you just have to be.

i love the bike/ski/whatever else fun combos. the more hattricks the better!

i've been playing with ideas involving a pickup, 250, singlespeed, snow sliding gear and rock climbing gear...

stash bike et al. a hundred yards off perpendicular to trailhead in trees, lock, and/or get a small green or brown tarp to camo it if you really want. obviously, don't lock it to the road gate or closure sign or trailhead post, no matter how cool the pic looks. Cool
