Re: Joining NATO

I live in rural Alberta, and 90 percent of anyone I associate with is conservative and what people consider "right wing" and "far right" and sometimes they even call Albertans Nazis. That last part might be due to all the actual Nazis that the Canadian government smuggled into the country in the 19...

Re: Joining NATO

Canada has never been capable of defending itself- huge country, tiny population. I love Canada so I will fight, but I'm old! BTW there are scads of Soviet era Russian T-72s still in use in NATO countries!

Re: Which ski for steep downhill narrow trails with a 50 lbm backpack

- Between 3 and 10 days mountain trecks hut-to-hut in narrow trails allowing only one skier width, and also forest roads, but no open fields. - 50 lbm / 23 kg backpack (210 lbm / 96 kg total with body mass) - Mostly gradual slopes - Often steep slopes - Rare flats - Snow types: unpredictable so all...

Re: Joining NATO

Problem with Nato is it encourages arms production. When a country joins Nato they have to standardize to Nato spec arms, further enriching those arms producers and causing massive surpluses in those countries as they replace supplies to match Nato spec. We are supposedly in a climate emergency (ac...

Cheap M68s

Sport Conrad in Garmisch, which ships to most countries in the world, has a pair of brand new Madshus M68 (99-68-84) Intelligrip skis for 119 EUR (about $125). They are the 20/21 model. Length 165cm recommended for skiers <65kg body weight.

Re: Fake Fjalraven cotton anorak

Norrøna selling unlabeled ventile at a third of its normal market price sounds too good to be true, but I'll trust your and others high opinions of this piece of kit on the practical side rather than theoretical. Not currently looking for a new anorak bit I'll look closer at Norrøna cotton gear on ...

Re: Fischer 23/24 EZ skin models.

I was pretty bummed when I got my Traverse 78's from REI last month and discovered they didn't have the EZ Skin attachment  I spoke to an employee at Great Glen Trails in NH about it (they are a Fischer dealer) and she said that with the Ukraine factory fire (I am sure the war isn't helping mu...

Re: Fake Fjalraven cotton anorak

I suspect the Norrona's cotton fabric is very similar if not the same as Ventile. I ski in a pair of Arcteryx ski-touring pants that were actually made in Canada, the last year they made them there- very durable and comfortable, might last forever. Norrøna selling unlabeled ventile at a third of it...

Re: Fake Fjalraven cotton anorak

@randoskier I'm not convinced that polycotton is cheaper than cotton to produce. I've used it quite extensively since being in the military (army fatigues were polycotton and subjected to a lot of abuse) and I find it more durable and quicker drying than pure cotton. Of course, any synthetics will ...

Re: Alfa Skaget Xplore boot disintegrate

If you stand in the main railway station of any major city here on a Saturday morning during the ski-touring season (ca. mid-February to mid-May) you’ll see scores of people milling about carrying rucksacks, touring skis and…..wearing touring boots. They’ll have had the boots on when they left home...
