Re: Touring speed comparison of skinny dbl camber vs. fat fishscaled ski

Hear, hear! I've a soft spot for vintage equipment in both summer and winter passions. I've a ridiculous quiver of poles that have stabbed their way into my basement and inevitably, after sitting for a few years in the rafters, get noticed, and get taken out for a ride or three. Amongst my current f...

Re: Waxless Scale Patterns- What's your favourite Flavor?

I haven't tasted enough waxless to have "favourites", but gave my S-Bound 98's a shot yesterday on the Fraser River Headwaters Trail up in Berthoud Pass near Winter Park, CO. Presidents' day weekend ski traffic was intense, and there was fresh pow, so after 2 hrs. of line-ups and weekender...

Re: UK Army Exercise Telemark Titan 2018

This program sounds fantastic. And reasonably priced, too. Thanks for sharing. Back in the 90's I took a UCPA summertime "randonnée" course up in that area, Parc de la Vanoise. Beautiful country!

There's a telemark saying in English: "Free your heels and your mind will follow." I used google to translate this into modern French for our Montreal and Mont Tremblant brethren: "Libérez les talons puis les couilles se gèleront". Welcome, Philippe, to the world of tele!

Homemade BC

I enjoy reading about people's homemade ski projects. Some good posts here recently involving mods to old skis and skin/scale adaptations. They give me ideas. I went out today in slightly rolling suburban forest in skis I brought down from the rafters. The original early 90's alpine skis w/ cheapo b...

Re: cuttin' em

Aha! The old cracked plastic heel-piece trick! Your story made me chuckle, though. Reminded me of the enigma of old plastic. I don't understand or cannot predict how plastic tends to behave over time. I've met people, though, who had astonishingly confident, even belligerent attitudes regarding the ...

I'm impressed with the grip on my Fischer S-Bound 98's. Enough so that I'm considering getting a pair of Traverse 78's w/ Easy-Skins.

Re: XCD, Telemark, xc on piste, Madshus, Eon,whatever

Yes, it's fun. And there's always learning, some forgetting, then some more learning. Today in Grand County air temps went up around 40 F, 3-5 C, with raging winds and grey skies. I headed over to the Fraser Experimental Forest to explore some trails I haven't yet skied on. Tried my Karhu XCD's with...
