Re: Hi from Alaska and some questions

Some day I hope to visit your beautiful state. Fat biking is big here in CO., although I haven't tried it yet. When you mentioned the "Alicos" and your having run across references to them in recent threads, I felt moved to clarify. Quite recently on a thread here I extolled the virtues of...

Re: Altai Skis Hok Review

I just checked the Altai website. No reference to 2017-18 season, and skis at the US store seems to be "out of stock". Anyone know what's the matter?

Re: Alpine Touring/Telemark skis- grip wax versus scales?

I confess to having great faith in waxing. Had a wonderful ski today. I decided to do some experimenting with two different skis, one set right after the other. 1) I re-fitted a narrow set of skins to my Karhu XCD-GT's and set out just north of here for the Grand Lake entry to Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park....

Re: Boot-Binding Compatibility

Thanks for that advice, Al. I remember last year considering flipping the Hardwire cable hook upside-down but reading or hearing somewhere that doing so risked some kind of apocalyptic consequence. :o Anyway, you survived the mod., so I'll try that, too. Thanks.

Re: Boot-Binding Compatibility

I use S-bound 98's with Voile Hardwires. I use them with Alico double-leathers and with Scott Excursions, depending on terrain. I ski them in Colorado in Summit and Grand counties. The Hardwires are a great match w/ the Excursions, a good comfy plastic boot that gives great downhill control. The Har...

Re: Duckbill boot question...

I ski Winter Park on Garmont Synergies. Soft and comfy, but good support. My son and I exchange boots occasionally. His oldish Scarpa T1's provide even more support, promote even more aggressive turning, but aren't as comfy. My son really liked the Synergy's when he tried them a week ago. He's into ...

Re: Yavin IV, January 28th 2017

Etant naif et peu hipster, j'ai dû chercher "Yavin 4" sur Google. Très bien, mais c'est où, enfin? Un bon clip sur un beau petit coin de forêt. Pas évident de naviguer dans du bois aussi dense. Bien fait!

Re: "My son wants to telemark!" advice wanted

Hi Jonah5, 75mm=duckbill=NN The nomenclature gets complicated. The 75 mm. boots (aka "duckbill") always come with the 3 holes in the duckbill piece. Most modern tele bindings don't have pins that fit into the holes, but rather use cables/cartridges that force the boot to snug up inside the...

Re: "My son wants to telemark!" advice wanted

"The Trading Post" in Winter Park is a great place for tele gear sold on consignment. My son (16) is on his third pair of Scarpa T-1"s bought for between $50 and $60, sizes 7.5-9.5. Not a lot of kids' small sizes, though. There's also a good consignment store up in Steamboat, but I fo...
