Re: Tonje/Ingstad DH performance : Excursion va Alaska

I have both the Alaska 75 and the Excursion. My usual skis are the Objective BC's and the old (1990's) Karhu XCD GT's, both with 3 pins. While the Alaska's are wonderfully warm and comfortable, and I usually lace those up for general touring, I do find they're not too good for turns on the Objective...

Re: When skiing was beautiful, an art, an expression of self..

No, he was much more of a stud muffin than those guys. And his exact words came back to me after I poster: "as you would your mistresses bosom". Could tell he was proud of that line. I was maybe 13, made a big impression. (People have commented on my style being 'graceful'). That Suzy Chaffe pic bri...

Re: TelemarkEAST shutdown?

Kinda sorry it's gone, saw it coming though. Biff mentioned it was getting tough to rationalize keeping it;it had gotten pretty dormant. First forum I stumbled upon when the original teletips shut down, plus it felt pretty local for me.

Re: When skiing was beautiful, an art, an expression of self..

I was in a class with an Austrian instructor once when I was in my teens; he was very much the young buck instructor image. remember one line from him: " You should caress the snow as you would your mistress..." Or pretty damn close to that. True story.

Re: The Åsnes Thread (News for 2018-2019!)

Those T53's were a nice ski, along the lines of the Epoke 1000. I went with Epoke's myself, but wouldn't hesitate to ski the Asnes.

I wear a size 42 Alaska (75mm), and have always worn a 26.5/27 T2, or T1. My foot measure's a 9.5 US.

Re: KARHU XCD GT

Hope you find a pair Paul, I sure like my trusty old 90's vintage pair, and ski them often. Rare "Merrell" graphics - from that period of a year or two when Karhu/Trak/Merrell would variously appear on the topsheets. Often with another graphic of the three underneath the more recent paint job. All t...

Re: skis for making miles

Lots of ways to gear up for such trips; for me, I'd take my Objective BC's and a solid 75mm leather boot, paired with a 3 pin binding. I like having a little width underfoot when skiing with a full pack, the grip and glide are excellent in spring snow, and the set up is light. Haven't skied any of t...

Re: Summer storage

For storage, I like a good coat of a warm temp, or base prep wax, even if it's a ski I grip wax in season. It's easy to scrape and brush the bases clean before season, and then cork in, or hot wax, polar for the winter, if desired. I also often leave the tips and tails glide waxed in season; again, ...

Re: wax vs scales vs XSkin vs klister

" I am actually considering a klister-specific ski in my quiver..." This is pretty much what I do. Narrows it down to a quiver of one beater ski, but it's OK for my backwoods tours and turns. Use skins and a better ski if it's a more substantial outing.I don't much mind cleaning klister on a bench (...
