Re: Nordic ICE Skaters... Les Quebecois? Je vous appelle

My understanding is that you would use them where you would use ice skates. Well thats no fun... :( I know they're used on frozen rivers, and most frozen rivers where I've lived are chunky, bumpy messes. I realize thats not the case everywhere, but Ive often wondered if nordic skates could go where...

Always been intrigued by these myself, just not sure what they can handle in terms of conditions/angle/terrain. Does the surface need to be flat and smooth? Can they climb? I'm fantasizing about ripping down iced over mtb trails, but Im not sure if thats outside of their intended range of use.

Re: and now....the rain

Im officially sick of ice skiing. Went out a few times last week, hit some frozen, beat up XC groomed 2 weeks ago stuff and some postholed lumpy hiking trails on the little Spider 62s, sorta had a blast, frozen crap was just grippy enough to get around, I told myself it was making me a better skier....

Re: Skiing down narrow, steep, switchbacky hiking trails

I'm not an expert skier at all but I'm a big fan of the Hoks on narrowly broken in hiking trails. They climb like goats, and if conditions and terrain necessitate, their short length allows for a pretty agile sidestep up or downhill. On narrow snowshoe packed trails they glide decently and dont have...

Re: Asnes USGI review

Cool, I've been so curious about the milsurp ski's, I just ordered the Karhu version with the 87mm shovel, are yours the 87mm tip or the narrower ones? I know there's a few variants out there. I figured they have to be decent, and the full wrap metal edge would seem bomber. Sounds like they perform ...

Re: and now....the rain

Yeah, 2 feet of snow gone in 2 days here in NH. Oh well,l we always get a January raw anyway, then most of our snow comes after. Had some great early season xc/bc skiing, now it's gonna be studded fatbike season till the next dump. Sucks I just got bindings on my S112's, went out last night in the r...

Re: Altai Skis Hok Review

I started on the 125's, went to 145's, for more fore/aft stability. Ive used them with the uni bindings, nnnbc, and now finally 75mm/T4's to try and get a little more DH ability. While I am pretty blown away with the control of the T4, I find myself now going for steeper. longer descents, and again...

Re: Kom or Excursion 88 good all around BC ski's?

Mr. Sage. where did you get those E-78's? That is a better price than I can find online. and I have not seen any left at 189 cm. I am tying to avoid GAS (gear acquisition syndrome), but hanging out here avoiding GAS is like trying to avoid gambling in a casino. Funny thing, I had a buddy get marrie...

Re: Kom or Excursion 88 good all around BC ski's?

I am afraid you've caught the disease- the XCD-performance-obsessed disease! The reason you are ho-hum about the T-78 is because it is a "jack-of-all-trades" compromise class of skis. For those that are less performance obsessed, a ski in the class of the T-78 is the perfect ski because i...

Re: Kom or Excursion 88 good all around BC ski's?

Got a few sessions in on the 78's. Went out last Saturday, around 14" of wet snow, low angle terrain. Did about 10 miles, out and back, breaking trail on the way out was a chore in that heavy snow, quads were feeling it on Sunday. Definitely could use more float, but they were better than the S...
