Re: The First Crossing of Greenland

Cool pictures. Off into the unknown during the age of discovery. A few years ago a husband and wife trained for a successful unassisted unsupported ski trek to the South Pole by pulling truck tires up the old railroad bed behind my house. But I'd agree overall fitness had to be better when foods wer...

Re: wax vs scales vs XSkin vs klister

I live in the PNW with a wet maritime snow and wax all of my skins. Better glide and they don't get wet and stretch or ice up. I crayon the wax on and go over it with an iron on a low heat. Takes 10 - 20 slow passes. I raised the heat and reduced the passes as I got more experience. I have some leg ...

Re: Wooden Ski Care and Preparation

I also have a pair of Birkebeiner's blocked and sealed with tar and a full wax kit. Someday one of my grand kids will discover them and take them out. Needed bench for the shop.

Re: wax vs scales vs XSkin vs klister

Did you wax your skins? I crayon some wax on mine and then use a warm iron to melt the wax into the fibers.

Re: the 12th Man

I'll have to be sure that I see that. My father served in Norway at the end of the war with a unit that included the remnants of the 99th Infantry (Seperate). The 99th was an American unit made up of Norwegian immigrants who could ski and wanted to volunteer for a commando role. They trained with th...

Re: D Day!

Good place to put this. I happened to see a D-Day survivor on his walk today. Not many left who went through that hell. We had a nice chat once. His body survived but it took decades to get his soul back. He said that he was in the second wave. "It was worse than the first wave. I was wading th...

Re: Rottefella Super Tele WITH STRAP

My first ski bindings had a similar strap as a method of keeping the toe in with cables but without the 3pins. I'm curious why the ability to secure the toe with a strap is still there.

Re: To pulk or not to pulk?

Nice build. I made a pulk to pull grandchildren similar to yours and yours looks up to the task. I really over built mine and lent it to a Denali summit expedition. The only negative feed back I got was that the slop where the poles attach to the belt was annoying with every step and they made some ...
