Re: Keeping dog paws ice/snow free

Booties work fine if you get the right ones and put them on properly. I get the 300 or 500 dernière ones from dogbooties.com . They’re about $3 each so you can buy a bunch and it’s no big deal if one gets lost. Put vet wrap around the dog’s leg. Then put the booty on with tight Velcro. Then put the ...

Re: Spring in October

Great mellow looking terrain! Lots of Aussies will be arriving here (BC Kootenay region) in the next month. Half the lifties say ‘Gooday mate’. :D

Re: Best ski for Nnn-BC xcD

I like the Salomon xAdv 89 for XCD. I would suggest a 185 - 190 range. Very light ski. Will turn easily. Not wide but has decent float in the soft stuff.

Re: 75mm boot recomendations

Do you want one boot, or two boots? I agree with Al, I'm loving my T4s. I have the Eco's but keep going for the T4s and then ski accordingly. If you want two boots I'd throw in the softer Alpina Alaskas for the flat stuff. I'm basically down to two boots now, T4s and Alaskas, I have no use for any ...

Re: XCD and NNN BC newbie

I look at (non-Alpine) skiing in much the same way as biking. X-country is close to road biking. You get in a rhythm and fly. Distance and pace are the governing issues. It is chiefly a cardio exercise but, unlike biking, gives you lots of upper body exercise too. Always working to beat that 10 km/h...

Re: Ymir Backcountry Ski Touring Lodge

Glad people liked the post. This is the successor to the Ymir Yurts. I can’t recall if YY preceded or succeeded ‘Wild Horse Snow Cats’ which essentially used the same area. There are some pictures of the old Yurt around the lodge. And, yes, you have to be very Avalanche aware in this area. Lots of >...

Re: Ymir Backcountry Ski Touring Lodge

Yes, my wife bravely joined in. She was using AT gear - so not the Excursions. That’s her in the blue jacket, white helmet climbing up towards the camera. This is her first year back to downhill skiing after a 20 year year hiatus  so it took some guts for her to come up to Ymir Lodge. Mind yo...

Re: I think I need to upgrade from leather boots

You may be right that NTN will take over in the long run. But it will continue to be a gradual transition. I think duckbills will be around long enough to wear out another pair of boots!

Re: Ymir Backcountry Ski Touring Lodge

In and out via helicopter, we had to bring everything in. 9A931857-D310-4511-BC5D-7E701FA6913D.jpeg Didn’t keep track of our daily vert. Basic rule: until your legs get wobbly. Most people were using AT. Just two telemarkers in the group. You are correct about the Avy risk. The area is ATES challeng...

I love seeing the German Shorthairs used as sled dogs. I used to skijor with mine occasionally. Great fun!
