Re: Voile Objective BC- good grip, not a full review but thoughts

Just returned from a two day tour. Terrain varied from rolling flat to black steep. Snow varied from soft and buttery to crust and icy. Those skis handled it all. They are just so stable and responsive on the down and the pattern works well on the up. Only had to resort to skins for one long steep c...

Re: Voile Objective BC observations and questions

Well I shaved 100 mm (4 inches) off the pattern at the rear. I was a little too enthusiastic on the first ski. Voile have been very skilled in their design. the grip is only slightly raised above the base at the rear. the upshot is no noticeable change in grip or glide. Mind you that is only one day...

Re: Voile Objective BC observations and questions

Well you blokes are great. Yes you are right, these skis have pattern to replace skins. Compressing the camber doesn't lift the forward pattern off the snow but I can see that area would / does provide grip in soft snow. I am going to experiment with shaving the pattern at the rear of the snow. I th...

Re: Voile Objective BC observations and questions

All good points Woodserson. I just find the position of grip strange. My skis are 178 and I am 150 lbs I mounted them with 3 pin bindings at Voile's recommended position. 1. the pattern seems too long. 2. The pattern forward of the pins wouldn't give much grip unless heavily weighted. This seems str...

Voile Objective BC observations and questions

I have been out using my Objectives for the last two months on variable Australian snow. Just great on the downhill. Tend to overpower my old Scarpa leather 3 pins but easily controlled by Excursions. Tremendous grip on the uphill on all sorts of snow. I think there is too much grip. Too much patter...

Re: Mounting 3-pin bindings to Voile Objective skis

You blokes are fantastic.
Sure I have years of skiing under my belt but not with bindings mounted differently than at the balance point.
I will go with Voile's recommendation especially since my boots are 26.5's.
Thanks again

Mounting 3-pin bindings to Voile Objective skis

Thanks for all the helpful advice from various people in deciding what length of Voile Objective ski to buy. I got the 178s I now have another question. When I went to mount the 3-pin bindings I read Johnny's advice and looked up Voile's information. I measured and marked the balance point, chord ce...

Re: Voile Objective skis - what length?

Thanks for the quick replies. I have to apologise because when I read your replies I realised I had stated the information correctly. My skis are Atomic Rainier not Chugach. I had been looking on the web at a 2nd hand pair of Chugach just before logging in to Telmark talk and sending a pm to Johnny....

Voile Objective skis - what length?

I intend buying a pair of Voile Objective skis the the waxless BC version. The problem I face is what length. I weigh 150 lbs andare 5' 8" I seem to be on the borderline recommended by Voile between the 171 and the 178 cm skis. I consider myself a good skier both up and down. I have been skiing Atom...
