Re: Skiorders.com

It's got to be a scam. I put the traverse 78 package in my cart and there was no where to select the boot size. Just the ski length, and under the credit card payment area it said "you will receive a random discount from 1-99 dollars"

Re: Super long skis... how long will the fun last..?

...and just to elaborate on the above post, I think most people actually use longer and narrower skis for efficiency on the flats and not for their downhill capabilities. If the snow is pretty deep or un-tracked you don't need full compression to get decent grip and the longer, narrower profile crea...

Re: Recall time

Reading this thread made me think of something my mom told me a few years ago before I went on my first backcountry ski trip in the ADKs. She told me my dad watched his friend die in an avalanche, and that the only reason my father survived was because he wasn't the first down the mountain. It was o...

sorry about that. I think we're trying to stick to US/Canada.

hut to hut trip

Hi all,

My Fiance and I are thinking about trying to do some sort of hut to hut trip this winter if we can find something that's not too gnarly. Any suggestions for a lady that is more adept on XC skis than I am but less comfortable falling down a mountain than me?

Thanks!

Re: torsional stiffness vs longitudinal stiffness

These replies have been super helpful. I've personally been working on Hok style skis where it seems like it might not help all that much, but I could see myself branching out into other kinds of skis if I thought I could do something innovative or at least interesting. I want to ask this question, ...

Re: torsional stiffness vs longitudinal stiffness

More torsional rigidity is possible, usually with more weight. Think of downhill skis right? but Christ they are heavy. The question is getting the TR without the extra weight, especially in XCD pursuits where we are not powered solely by gravity. That's exactly where I'm going. thanks for the enco...

Re: torsional stiffness vs longitudinal stiffness

The Gammes felt MUCH more secure in similar conditions (edge hold traversing steep slopes). ...Which makes some sense to me. Narrower and more longitudinally stiffer skis are going to be more torsionally stiff. Anyway, I appreciate y'alls feedback. I was going to try to do some finite element analy...

torsional stiffness vs longitudinal stiffness

Hey all, As I think about ski design some more, I've taken to the over simple notion that we want to maximize torsional stiffness while controlling longitudinal stiffness for pop and grip in our stride and minimizing weight. I'm guessing that at a point, we end up with skis that are so torsionally s...
