Re: North Country Scenic Trail

P1020003.JPG Although this was early September in the Brooks Range I had my winter set up. It's a Kifaru 4 man tipi with a stainless woodstove. Total weight is less than 15 lbs. with the tent stuffing down to a little bigger than a loaf of bread and the stove folds down to about the size of a three...

Re: Us gold medal

I wish I'd have seen it live, I bet it was awesome. What an ending for a 5 time American olympic xc skier.

Re: North Country Scenic Trail

Good for you dude, nothing like a little adventure to recharge the battery. Did you carry that pack or was it on the sled when you were moving?

Re: KICK Waxing Scales! It works!

The trouble you can get into is if temps drop you will have a hard time removing the wax from the scales in the field and you may have zero glide. By all means do it if it's the only option but next time try kick waxing the tips and tails first to see if that works before getting wax on the scales.

Re: Touring speed comparison of skinny dbl camber vs. fat fishscaled ski

I did the same 1.5 mile tour today with my T4s and freshly waxed dbl. camber xcd-gt. Conditions were harder and faster than last week and I shaved 6 minutes off my time compared to the vectors. So yes the double camber waxed ski was significantly faster but for a typical 3 hour tour that would add o...

Re: Touring speed comparison of skinny dbl camber vs. fat fishscaled ski

Man, Al, I wouldn't have thought of that, two different poles. That's thinking out of the box. I was joking with a ski tech a few days ago about skiing in mismatched boots as I was getting heel pieces moved backwards and wanted to accommodate two different boot sets. Mismatched poles. I'll give it ...

^^^^ That's what I think, a higher number of participants at a higher level of participation. Also, their Nordic team kicked ass, do they have the same kind of rules?

My new goal is not to master crappy conditions but to avoid them. With my long season up here I can be selective about when I go out. I can make up for a crappy winter by getting out in April and May.
