Re: Favorite Ski Meets Favorite Binding

I had plastic wedges under my Rivas, maybe that's why I didn't have a problem. I may swap out the rivas with a 3pin cable today to see how it compares. I've had the 3p cable for almost 30 years but never had it on a ski I liked. Did I miss what the skis and boots were? Sorry woods, the boots are T4 ...

Re: Favorite Ski Meets Favorite Binding

Phoenix, they are riva IIs. I never had that problem with the cable, but I don't set mine too tight. I noticed today that the coils of the springs don't open up at all. Ben, there were a lot of good bindings that fell out of use with the trend towards more active powerfull bindings. They might be ju...

Re: Safety Gear

Bob, if your wool pants have a double fabric on the knees you can slice a hole in the top from the inside and slide in a piece of half inch foam. Its a neat idea...if you happen upon a slice of foam you can trust when kissing a rock or hidden log. Unfortunately for me, foam around here is a little ...

Bob, if your wool pants have a double fabric on the knees you can slice a hole in the top from the inside and slide in a piece of half inch foam. Like carhartt pants with the reinforced knees are designed to put a piece of foam in there. In fact I use Carhartts for skiing back in Pa. and like them. ...

Re: Favorite Ski Meets Favorite Binding

This also got me thinking about the difference between hard wire bindings and cable bindings in general. The HWs may have more power and tortional stiffness than a cable but it may be worthwhile to go back in time and try some old bindings like the Targa or Chilis to see if the have that smooth feel...

Re: Favorite Ski Meets Favorite Binding

I haven't skied the Hypers yet Woods and I'm way more excited about skiing this new combo than skiing them. I put together my perfect trifecta of boot, ski, and binding. As far as the 3 pin HW, it is a good binding, it tours good and is light w/o the heel throws but you need to put them on to get th...

Favorite Ski Meets Favorite Binding

Just when it felt like things couldn't get any better I put together the combination that eliminated the compromise of the 3-Pin HW and sent the fun factor through the roof.

Re: Pictures, pictures and pictures!

Thanks T rock, it was a sweet day, and that little bump demonstrates the benefit of no wax or kick wax touring over skins. I made those turns about two weeks after the last storm at the most popular BC spot in the state after the rest of the mountain was tracked up. I find a lot of areas that hold g...

Re: lack of grip undermines the entire performance of an XCD ski

Well Canna, a ski with a dog on it would make me seem less threatening when I ask," Are you going to pick that up?"

Re: The Finest Leathers: Nordic Norm 75mm Backcountry/Telemark Boots

Where are the trails in the knwr? I've been wanting to do an overnighter on the canoe trails and icefish for some rainbows. The seven lakes trail often offers good skiing, and has cabins to rent on engineer and kelly lakes. One could fish for lakers on hidden, kokanees on engineer, and rainbows in ke...
