If the treatment doesn't darken that split leather on the Alaska it is not conditioning it and the leather will dry out and eventually crack.
Makes sense - good to know!
I got the Nikwax since that's what was available locally.
I'll let you guys know how it works out this season.

Re: Alpina Alaska Boot Treatment

The end result seems to be identical between the two. I couldn't really see any difference in penetration or the ability to repel water. The Nikwax would appear to be more similar to a leather balm/cream than the Hydrobloc, but they both seem to work. Does the Nikwax discolor the leather similar to...

Re: Voile 3 Pin Cable Setup

I'm not a big fan of the spring cables on the Voile 3 pin bindings. I have the 3 pin cable binding mounted on a set of Fischer Sbound 98's and the 3 pin cable traverse binding on a set of Voile Objective BC's. They help a bit on the downhill, but for all other aspects of XCD skiing, they frustrate ...

Re: Voile 3 Pin Cable Setup

I only tighten mine enough to keep them from popping open. Plenty of tension for downhill control and unfortunately too much for resistance free touring. When I'm doing laps I just leave the cables on and I seem to get used the extra resistance. So is the general process then to just gradually tigh...

Voile 3 Pin Cable Setup

Hi everyone, Currently skiing Altai Koms with Voile Cable bindings and Alpina Alaska boots (the trifecta of awesome!). The Alpina's are new to me this year so I have to recalibrate the cables on the Voile's. I set them up last year and honestly didn't really know what I was doing so just ball-parked...

Re: Altai Kom Waxing

From previous posts it is Swix Polar V05. Removal is pretty easy. You can heat it again and wipe it off with a rag or you can use commercial wax remover/mineral spirits. I played around with it this weekend and it isn't that big of an issue if you have an iron or a heat gun. Awesome, thanks for the...

Re: Altai Kom Waxing

I have a 162cm Kom. Central New Brunswick Canada. 200-600m elevation. Lots of snow. Very cold for extended periods mid-winter- lots of fresh snow. Extended skiing on deep, melting spring snow. I grip wax the ENTIRE base of my Kom with a very hard-grip wax- saved it from the yard sale. I simply coul...

Altai Kom Waxing

Greetings, I had my first season on the Koms last year and absolutely loved it. I upgraded from 2 years on the Hoks and it was a huge improvement for my tele turns. I wish I had went for the longer 174cm version though, but that's another matter... Anyways, I diverge! I went a whole season without w...

Re: Altai Kom 162 vs 174

Great tips - thank you.
I had the cables way too tight based on this method!
