Re: New skis

Thanks phoenix. For waxless, is it essentially the same, other than not waxing the scales?

Re: New skis

Ok thanks! So with a new ski, is one layer of prep wax enough (whether it's base wax or polar), or is it better to have multiple layers?

Re: New skis

Thanks :) can I just prep with polar first, or is a softer wax better for the first pass?

Haha Nitram, that would be the dream. They were a good deal though ;)

New skis

Hey everyone,

Just got my E99s in the mail today. Does anyone have tips for prepping the skis before I get out there?

Re: LilCliffy's Nordic Backcountry Touring Waxing

Hey LilCliffy, Thanks for this invaluable thread! I decided to go with the 200 cm E99 Xtralites, which were on sale for a great price! Coming in the mail soon... So on that note, for new skis: Is there extra prep necessary, like more ironing and corking to get more polar wax to seep into the new bas...

Re: Recommendation for XCd ski for central Alberta foothills

Yes lilcliffy, you are right about my XC focus. Sounds good, I will weigh the importance of turning and of flotation before deciding on length. Good advice for flattening the camber, Ben. As my family wants to be ready to just get out there this season, I actually bought 9 (!) pairs of skis for supe...

Re: Recommendation for XCd ski for central Alberta foothills

Thanks for the help everyone!

I did find an older Europa 99 online with 3 pin bindings, but I haven't chosen between those and NNNBC...

So should I go for 195+ cm for my height and weight? Especially since I may have a pack.

Re: Recommendation for XCd ski for central Alberta foothills

Well, I am wanting to ski some track because I think I can only get my family to go for that type of outing. But what I found out is that a local guy has some old style wooden XC skis for a great deal, so I might use those for track skiing and buy another set for backcountry outings. I will try to f...

Re: Recommendation for XCd ski for central Alberta foothills

Haha thanks for the warning Nitram, I will do my best to resist ;)

I see, so the older E99 (pre Xtralite?) is the better ski?

Is the new E99 still passable?

Re: Recommendation for XCd ski for central Alberta foothills

From what I've seen skis that are less than 70 mm won't do well in deep snow. Is that correct?

So if that's the case, fitting in the track is not so much of a concern.
