Re: Asnes USGI skis/bindings/boots

I'm not in the loop, but it looks like a company named Serket USA partnered with Icelantic to provide skis and has come up with a 'universal' binding to supply the USMC. https://www.marinecorpstimes.com/news/your-marine-corps/2018/10/02/marines-award-contract-for-new-ski-system/ Serket USA website s...

Re: Crispi XR or XP?

Good question. I'd call up the Fey Bros at https://aspinockwoods.com/ and ask them. They're the distributor for Crispi telemark boots in the US. I can't wear Scarpa boots (they don't fit my weird feet), but I've flexed Scarpa T2eco boots in the store. They seem to have extremely stiff bellows, much ...

Re: How to tele: 3-pin only

Right now I only have the T2 eco's in duckbill- I've flexed the bellows of a few T2eco boots over the last few years, and they are STIFF! I can't see how those boots would work for touring with a 3-pin binding. The bellows is so stiff that it would take too much work to get a kick-and-glide going. ...

Re: Altai Skis Still Available?

FWIW, there are a few Sépaq parks in Québec that have trails designated for "Hok skiing"(!!). Is that a thing?

Re: Looking for some advice as a new XCD skier

Another wrinkle to this... I ski mostly in the woods in the Catskills, Berkshires, southern VT and Adirondacks. Lots of bushwhacking on skis. I like it. I use a 'light telemark' setup as a sliding snowshoe kind of thing. I don't worry too much about covering long distances as fast as I can, but rath...

Re: Skins- off-season storage

Neat trick learned from a fantastic guide I met in Canada... Instead of the commercial skin savers (which always begin to fall apart, leaving pieces of themselves embedded in the skin glue) I started using strips of non-slip rug pad instead - https://www.homedepot.com/p/TrafficMASTER-Premium-2-ft-x-...

Re: Randonee (AT) vs Telemarking?

The answer to the question really revolves around what kind of terrain you want to ski over/across/up/down. I went on a glacier traverse in the Canadian Rockies on my telemark rig - 3-buckle plastic boots, Voile Vector skis (no fish scales) with skins, Voile Switchback X2 bindings. There was a group...

Re: Really New Skis

I just got a new-in-wrapper older pair of Vectors with smooth bases, after loving my Vector BCs for the last four seasons. Just like the Vector BCs, I have Switchback X2s on these new Vectors. I took them out for the first time yesterday, skiing the chopped up SnoCone man-made at good ol' Belleayre....

Base Repair for Fish-scale based skis? (Madshus Annum)

Hey, it's time for skiing! YEAH. So yeah, I went skiing, in the backcountry even. But... I hit a rock (what a surprise), and I gouged a pretty nice hole in my well-loved (and well-used) Madshus Annum skis. It's right in the middle of the fish-scale area, just reaching the wood core. Does anyone have...

Re: What alpine skis are people using for telemark?

Alpine skis I've mounted with telemark bindings and skied: K2 Merlin III -- I wouldn't recommend them, but they got me started. I had Voile 3-Pin Hardwires on them. Skied them with Crispi CXT (2-buckle) boots. The worked surprisingly well with kick wax, but they were total noodles. They're long gone...
