Re: Waxless Scale Patterns- What's your favourite Flavor?

For climbing, Alpina patterns on Discovery or Control. I haven't tried the really wide Alpina's, I would assume the patterns are also good for climbing.

Re: Looking for BC XCd Ski Recommendations

I am surprised that you are getting the advice to avoid waxless skis. If you are breaking trail, the glide isn't going to be much different with waxable or waxless skis. I don't think you have to worry about icy conditions in NE Washington, so grip is not an issue with waxless skis. It may be a lii...

Re: Skis too long?

I don't know where you are, but it's easier to learn good xc striding technique in groomed tracks, if you have any nearby. For that, you would need narrower skis. If you don't want to buy, you may want to rent a few times.

Re: XCD'ing in Tetons

This post makes me wish I was younger and was physically up to the elevation gain here.

Next time you are in the area, you might want to check out Harriman State Park for some nice scenery and xc skiing.

northwestern travelers

I can't find the thread, but I remember someone mentioning they were planning on traveling in the northwest and were looking for places to camp and ski. The event below may be of interest (I won't be there). Anthony Lakes has parking for campers with an Oregon or California snow park pass. https://w...

Re: The crappiest conditions ever?

We normally get dry, powdery snow in the Blues until mid-March., but it was raining there last Friday, I did not try to ski last weekend. It's not worth skiing on untracked rain crust. This Friday, more rain forecast there, along with White Pass (in the Cascades), and Mt. Spokane. I would expect the...

Re: Please help a neophyte Vermont XC skier select the right gear

One other comment--with your height, I would stick with "short size" skies, ie those made in lengths where the skis made for heaviest skiers are 189-195 cm NOT 205-210 cm. I am 5'7", used to be the same weight as you. I think you will find the shorter skis, although somewhat slower, a...

Re: Please help a neophyte Vermont XC skier select the right gear

The skis you have mentioned will not fit in groomed tracks. The maximum width a groomed track will fit is about 68 mm. I'll finish my reply later.

Re: The friggin' Triple Rs

Similar in Eastern Washington. We actually had snow in Walla Walla yesterday, but the inversion is supposed to end. The Blues had about 4 inches yesterday. I didn't ski this week but plan to be out skiing Thursday or Friday I don't know if Bluewood or Anthony Lakes will be open by next weekend.
