Re: Open turns in Barnett's Cross-Country Downhill?

That is very cool. Thank you for posting that article @DropKneeDiehard. How well do pedal hop turns work with a free heel?

Re: Next winter set up

Follow-up review: I suspected something was going on with this setup because the topsheets were in such bad condition compared to the bases and edges. The misgivings turned out to be well-founded. The tips of the skis were "hooky" in two different ways. One was where they hooked the snow and made th...

I have tested more recently and talked with other owners, that many prefer a mount 3cm back from the usual 455-rule mount location. This is to counteract the stiffer tip (compared to Järvinen)
What is the 455 rule?

Re: Peltonen Metsä Step 270

@Inspiredcapers hope your leg is healing well!

I wonder what the pros/cons of the Peltonen Metsä vs Altai Kōm for trail-breaking are. It would be fun to do a head-to-head race...

Re: Karhu xcd gt full metal edge xc skis 62 54 59

It seems in the old days all those xc skis were long stix and that's what the stores were pushing. I see quite a few 210,215 and 220cms in the thrift stores and think holy crap those are long. I have a pile of older skis kicking around ranging from 220cm and downward. The 220cm Karhu waxless generi...

Re: Joining NATO

I live in rural Alberta, and 90 percent of anyone I associate with is conservative and what people consider "right wing" and "far right" and sometimes they even call Albertans Nazis. That last part might be due to all the actual Nazis that the Canadian government smuggled into the country in the 19...

Doing a Herringbone is surprisingly easy with the Metsä and leaves a pretty impressive pattern in the snow.
Not something I ever expected to hear about 270cm skis. Very cool.

What niche do you think these skis occupy in your ski collection? And how do you transport them?

Re: Open turns in Barnett's Cross-Country Downhill?

If I understand things correctly, the open turn is a parallel turn that finishes with the inside ski tip deliberately splayed uphill (the tips are "open"). That makes sense. What is a lot more confusing is how to start the next turn from this position. Barnett does not really describe this. This see...

Re: Joining NATO

Was the whole organization "run" by them? Looks like the ex Nazis basically were commanders-in-chief of Allied Forces Central Europe from 67-83, but how much other power did they have? Pretty messed up to begin with, that USA/UK put these people in power. The choice is perfectly consistent and logi...
