Re: Altai Kom skis

I really like that USGI for trail skiing. I love it when blue wax works, they really fly (in my world) They really are an awesome distance-oriented BC-XCd ski- can't say enough good about them. And- I agree- they are fast- despite being heavy- that camber and flex, combined with that wicked tip is ...

Re: Kom or Excursion 88 good all around BC ski's?

Got a few sessions in on the 78's. So, they're better than what I had, and perhaps I'll discover their optimum range of conditions, but still a bit limited. I am afraid you've caught the disease- the XCD-performance-obsessed disease! The reason you are ho-hum about the T-78 is because it is a "...

That is- unless it ain't steep- then the T-78 is probably better!

Excursion 88 Bob- with Easy Skin- should be able to get it for a steal in the off-season...

I should get one too so we can all compare!

Re: Altai Kom skis

What about the 88 over distance- enough camber for it to be tolerable? What about the 88 vs. 98 over distance? This is the context where I have not liked the 122 or the 98- I find them frustratingly turny- due to the sidecut- when I have tried them on a distance tour...It was actually a big dispoint...

Re: Altai Kom skis

That is why I want a ski that tours. I might ski 10 miles to ski 4 or 5 hills. Some of the hills I might yo-yo 6-10 times, others it is only once. Because it is to steep and narrow to climb up, and the next trail I bushwack to does not head back that way. A ski that offers enough XC performance for...

Re: Altai Kom skis

lilcliffy, I've been going thru a very parallel process in gear selection this season. I have some Alaska 75's, and also Excursions... went back and forth between the Kom's (162 for me) and Objectives for a couple of months. Went with the Objective BC's finally. Cool man. What is your initial exper...

Re: Altai Kom skis

Well- what I am really after is something that you describe well Woods- an up-down ski for BC skiing tight and steep lines through dense forested hills and ravines. Currently, all of my XCD skis (except for the Hok) are distance-oriented- including my 195cm Annums. This means I must downhill ski thr...

Re: 2015 Åsnes Combat NATO

The current Asnes Combat Nato is my current top pick distance-oriented BC-XCD ski- offering a balance of XC, climbing and downhill skiing in hilly terrain and an incredibly wide range of snow conditions. 1) It is simply the best "XC" ski that I have ever tested in truly deep snow. 2) Its f...

Re: 2015 Fischer E-109 Tour Easy-Skin

I must say that I love this ski. When the conditions are ideal for the flex pattern of this ski- with that soft open tip- this ski is an absolute high-performance XCD dream! Then there are all the conditions that are not ideal: very deep snow; breakable crust. This ski is the result of the evolution...
