Re: Powder baskets.

I screwed up and shredded one of the baskets on my poles - I have Karhu Mirage poles that have a small cup that points rearward on the tips. I think you need to replace the entire tip. Has anyone used the Swix replacements that Aker's sells? I am not sure if they are going to be big enough. I have t...

Re: Do I want a Nansen or Gamme?

So I screwed up and demo'd a pair of E109s two years back (possibly 3) and stupidly did not pull the trigger. I really liked them - floated in loose deep snow better than E99s, turned very nicely on a steep little hillock I tested them in untracked in several tele turns. Just liked them. I am not su...

Re: Eastern pennsylvania xcd spots?

So for me, Lake Placid and the High Peaks area is a 4 hour drive each way - my regular program for the winter is several shots at Gore for day trips and then a trip to Gore, drive 1.33 hr to Placid, hang out and XC for a day and shop a bit - Cascade XC Ski Center has nice trails and fantastic shop t...

Re: Eastern pennsylvania xcd spots?

Replying for the original poster (and others on this too), from where he is I would look carefully at some options around the Adirondacks too - I live in Syracuse NY which is about 4 hours or so from Philly. My winter goes something like this: -- Lots of trips to Gore for resort tele skiing - if you...

Re: How do I ski the bumps in tele??!!

Been forever since I was over on this board - here's a few things I did for this - 1) Find a context to push yourself to develop fluid, continued focus on stringing together several bumps at a time. For me, I taught myself to tele bumps and stiffer terrain seriously on some Merrell Comps and 194 cm ...

Re: Fischer Easy-Skin vs. Asnes Skin-Lock

So I spent some time demo skiing the E109s to see what they felt like. I did not try out the kicker skins. I actually liked them quite a bit. They skied well in set tracks and when taken briefly off into two foot deep powder, they floated well. I can tele on them a little, it will never be be like m...

Re: Setting tension on Rott Chili's/exterior spring bindings

there are likely two levels of "tight enough" that you could use - I ski these bindings on both my downhill tele skis with Merrell Comps to drive them. Twist them a ways and you'll hit the "decent tension" snap which I use for most mellow cruising. If you want to make the bindings a little more acti...

Re: Breaking in new leather boots

I agree with the comment about the scuff guard - looks like that might be part of the problem - whether it will break in at some point or not I don't know as I don't have any experience for that. It's a nice boot for a great price if it breaks in - cheap to find out. I'd do some sno-sealing of them ...

Re: Prepping new wax skis

So I have a fair bit of experience with waxable skis of several kinds and just did some research that may be applicable for this. Tip 1 - get some Swix Stripper solvent - you will need this to periodically remove the kick wax down to the base wax. If you poke around you can find info on some other s...

Re: Waxless Skis Icing Bad

I'll put in a good word for this stuff on wax less skis. http://www.akers-ski.com/product/56MGT.html I have a crapload of skis both waxable and wax less and ski both of them in a lot of different conditions. When I really care what I'm doing and it's below freezing I grab the waxable skis. I have lo...
