Re: Alpina Alaska Boots in very cold weather

I use the Alaskas in temps to -20F without getting cold feet. My feet don't get cold easily though.

Re: Permanent integrated Skin in BC skis Sporten Explorer Skin

In my experience, skis with an integrated skin are very tough to ski downhill on anything other than soft powder. Anything a little firm or warm and the skins grab and release in a way that's hard to predict. Additionally, once you edge the skis in a turn, the skins are no longer dragging on the sno...

Re: Snowshoer Gone Skiing Help

The marquette backcountry ski is very limited and not much better than snowshoes. It climbs well but they are very heavy, not flexible, and do not glide well. The are very similar to snowshoes IMO. I've skied/owned them and won't again. Considering your size, you may want to look at some of the Voil...

Great purchase Al! I'm excited to hear a comparison between the Vector BCs and Hyper Vector BCs. Not that I'm looking for an excuse to replace my Vector BCs, but still...

Re: Finally!

Plenty of snow here in parts of the UP if you can make the long drive. Hit the Porkies or Bohemia! In some of the hills, there's 3 feet of base with fluffy LES on top. Best early season in many years. Not so much at lower elevations down by the lake though.

Re: Women's NNN-BC boots

Good thread Woods! Warmth and fit are a big problem for my gf's feet. It took 3 tries to get the right fitting Excursions for her. I don't want to dole out the cabbage for Alaskas if at all possible, so does anyone have suggestions for earlier versions of NNN-bc boots that I should look out for used...

Re: What bindings to pair with Altai Kom skis

Anyone try these with Burnt Mtn spike 3 pin binding? Those bindings were on a pair of skis I borrowed a few years ago, and I liked them a lot. I mounted Koms with BMD Spike 3-pins. It is a perfect pairing IMO. The bindings are a step-in no fuss or fiddle design with plenty of power to control the K...

Re: Best Wax for Snow Dust, Frosted Leaves & Grass

Plenty of snow up high here in the UP. And about the best wax question: scales. Good to hear from you Conny. I didn't think you had much snow. I have been checking the snow reports for Marquette Mt, they finally opened yesterday with one chair. Are you trai skiing, or is there enough snow for some ...
