Re: Ski Review: Altai Kom 162cm

Another interesting, well thought out review LC, thanks! I agree the Koms are not an XC ski. I suspect you would enjoy touring on the Koms better with SB's or some other free pivot binding. IMO, it makes these types of skis much easier to tour and climb with. Yes, you have to figure out how to press...

Re: Touring speed comparison of skinny dbl camber vs. fat fishscaled ski

Same experience here LAA. Touring with steeper ups and downs, and the VectorBCs/lite plastic boots are somewhat faster. (and a HELL of a lot more fun!) On more rolling tours with mellow ups and downs, skinny double-cambers, wax, and light boots/nnnbc is way faster than Vectors/Excursions EXCEPT when...

Re: "wing" mod for nnn

Try this out T$. Screw an eyelet into your skis behind the heelplate. Now tie some some para cord to it. Then tie the other end of the paracord around your ankle so you can only lift your heel 2 or three inches. Next, before consuming any cocktails go out and make some turns. Let us know what happe...

Re: I, for one, welcome our new parallel turning robot overlords.

As long as they stay out of the BC, I'm OK with it.;) So now you can just get a robot to ski for you. Self-driving cars, self-skiing robots, what's going to be left for humans to actually do? Sit around and post on forums? I bet we can come up with a robot that does that too. Jus think of the stimul...

Re: The UP Conditions Report Thread

Nice Askel! I never made it over to the radio tower. We screwed around in the woods a little closer to the main trails and it was scraped up and not great. Now that I hear the snow was good over there, I wish I had put forth the effort to get to the radio tower! Oh well. I've spend most of the last ...

Re: The UP Conditions Report Thread

Haha. I thought that might be you, but again, was not sure. I guess if we wanted to meet up we should have said what we were wearing before-hand. Otherwise, I just look like every other helmeted tele skier. FWIW, I was the guy that ate shit right under the chair in spectacular fashion. You may have ...

Re: I hate my bindings

I usually K&G in ski mode and feel more forward resistance and tip pressure with the X2s. If I was mostly skinning or resort skiing I'd go with the X2. My boots are T2 ecos. Ah, that makes sense! I strongly dislike K&G in Ski mode in SB, but even more so with the X2s. If you don't mind K&am...

Re: I hate my bindings

... At some point, I need touring bindings. What's the best touring binding for an Excursion class boot? Switchback? I like the SB for that class boot. 3-pins can work well too. Most of my bindings are SBs but since I don't do much skinning anymore I would be happier if they were 3 pin HWs. I am th...
