Re: Voile Objective BC observations and questions

Bedford, the scales in front of your feet will probably give you grip in everything but the hardest snow even though they don't come in contact with the floor. Agreed 100% The scales in front of the toe help immensely when climbing in soft snow (breaking trail). These skis are not traditional XC sk...

Re: The UP Conditions Report Thread

Still stuck in town with "only" 2 feet of fresh snow. There's 3+ feet of fresh in the hills. The local ski hill closed a couple weeks ago so we skinned and skied deep, dry powder until exhaustion.

Does this look like spring?

Re: The UP Conditions Report Thread

just got a fresh foot of snow in town. Up in the hills, it looks more like 28 inches with maybe another foot of LES today. Too bad I broke the leaf spring in my Tacoma. Plus the road up into the hills is most likely not plowed yet so I am stuck in town shoveling!

Re: Spring skiing voyaging... which ski to bring?

Nice trip and really nice setup Woods! Have fun. Yes, bring skins. They will be worth it especially if your ski partner is using them too.

This is a first. Cats sleeping with dogs! I can no longer stand by my advice because I must have taken a blow to the head or some other TBI.

Re: Voile Objective skis - what length?

My advice still stands. If you can turn the Rainiers, you can turn Objectives easily. IMO, you'll really enjoy the upgrade. Rainiers and Chugachs are basically the same ski with the Chugachs being wider by 10 mm or so.

Re: Voile Objective skis - what length?

My $.02: I would do the 178's. You'll like the added length/glide for touring. If you are used to turning the Chugach, you'll have NO PROBLEM turning the Objectives. The Chugachs, while wide (98-69-88), are a very stiff camber and a half, making them a bit of a chore to turn in challenging condition...

Re: Switchback question

If I had to guess, it sounds like you may have your bindings mis-adjusted so one cartridge has more pre-load than the other one. When I have an imbalance in the adjustments between the two cartridges, I notice that the heel throw is not aligned on the center of the ski and one cartridge 'pulls' more...

Re: Trailhead Time Saver Idea (you heard it here first)

No way I can drive my standard transmission tacoma with ski boots, unless they are NNN-BC. I can't get the clutch to the floor. My neighbors actually get dressed in full kit at home: boots, helmets, goggles, etc and then all 4 of them, kids included, jump in the car and go to the hill. They come hom...
