Re: thanks for all the fish

My 210s are just as LC described his 200/210: can't close camber with one hand but can barely with two. The tips seem softish compared to the stiff camber at least.

Re: riser plates in the backcountry?

Have you looked at the Voile Traverse: basically 3-pin cable with integrated risers. http://www.voile.com/voile-3-pin-cable-traverse-telemark-binding.html Another option that some folks I ski with use is the BMD Telebulldog 3-pin: http://www.burntmtn.com/00TB3pin/ltindex.html It would NOT need riser...

Re: thanks for all the fish

If you had to choose an area to live and ski in MI, the Traverse City area would be one of the top choices! There's a pretty good ski culture in that area and some pretty good terrain for touring and turning. The UP would be closest to AK in terms of cold, snow, ruggedness, and open wilderness. I su...

Re: Ranks... :)

I should be knocked down to at least Pinhead due to the overall low quality of my posts. Pretty sure 2/3's of them focused on the Image that you mentioned.

Re: Skis for NE Ontario bush traveling

Considering your primary goal of touring on logging roads and bushwhacking in non-steep terrain, the Asnes USGI surplus skis may just be the ticket: https://colemans.com/shop/cold-weather-gear/u-s-g-i-cross-country-downhill-skis/ They come in lengths up to 210 cm. They are not scaled and require kic...

Re: Snow or none?

... It will be a good three to four weeks before I will know if the oaks will hold a good portion of the leaves through the winter. So what's the verdict Fish? I was down in SW MI over the holiday and there were TONS of leaves on the oaks but not on any other trees. What do you suppose that means f...

That sucks. I've used them for online purchase of many ski related items over the last several years. My dad used to take me there when I was a kid for XC related gear. Bummer.

Re: Do we really need all that sidecut for powder skiing?

I'm with you LC. I've never been a big fan of lots of sidecut, especially for touring skis. Sidecut is great for downhilling on groomed snow, but beyond that, if you can ski with control and balance, lots of sidecut is not needed and in fact can become a hindrance.

Re: What is camber?

If you are continuously breaking skis, it means you aren't doing it right. Maybe find a better tool for the job.

Re: Snow or none?

We had a historically shitty winter last year. Little snow and warm temps. It's been the trend for the last couple of years. That is extremely rare where I'm at on the south shore of lake Superior. We are due for a real winter this year... In SE Michigan we get some lame winters, even when I was a ...
