Re: which ski climbs best

The Koms climb on par with the Vectors. Much better than the Rossis and the Annums IMO.

Nope. We are kind of on our own up here.

Re: Altai Kom skis

I'm pretty sure the Vectors have a carbon layer as well. My understanding of the difference between the Vectors and V6s is that the Vectors are straighter and stiffer while the v6 is softer, and, in Voile's words, "more playful" than the Vectors. Whatever that means...

Re: Altai Kom skis

LC, I would seriously consider the HW (or just a regular 3-pin) over the SB bindings for that setup. On a short ski like the 160ish KOM, I find that just a 3-pin minus the hardwire works just fine. I personally think that the SB would be overkill for such a short maneuverable ski. Excursions tour pr...

Re: Pictures, pictures and pictures!

Fish-e, naw, that map opened to somewhere in southern California! However, I'm pretty familiar with the Ives Lake area. Some of it is in club property (anything north, east or west of Ives lake) and strictly off-limits, and some is public assess CSA land (Ives hill area, south of Ives lake) that is ...

Re: Pictures, pictures and pictures!

Went out for a fun 'ski' today. It looks like an early season this year. Bummer. Lake Superior, in the background, is about 8 miles away and 1000' below.

Re: Confessions of a Frustrated Boot Buyer

Thanks for replies... $50 for off the shelf insoles... bloody hell. I'm working way too cheap. I hear you, but FWIW, I've had my superfeet insoles for 3 full seasons (60+ days/season in those boots) and they are still as good as the've always been, so over the long term, they aren't THAT bad...and ...

Re: Kom or Excursion 88 good all around BC ski's?

I wonder how different a pair of KOM skis is to a pair of Vector BC... I've skied both. I prefer a longer ski, so I'm automatically bias towards the Vector BCs, even in tight trees. I also prefer how the longer Vectors tour compared to the KOMs. The KOMs seem good for tight spaces and seem to prefe...

Re: Kom or Excursion 88 good all around BC ski's?

The 88's and the Koms are very, very different skis. You may want to look at something somewhere in between, unless you are looking to do turns/climbs in tight, steeper terrain (Koms) or more touring with some turns involved here and there (88's). The Voile Objective BCs or the Madshus Annum or Fisc...
