Re: Kom or Excursion 88 good all around BC ski's?

I wonder how different a pair of KOM skis is to a pair of Vector BC... I've skied both. I prefer a longer ski, so I'm automatically bias towards the Vector BCs, even in tight trees. I also prefer how the longer Vectors tour compared to the KOMs. The KOMs seem good for tight spaces and seem to prefe...

Re: Kom or Excursion 88 good all around BC ski's?

The 88's and the Koms are very, very different skis. You may want to look at something somewhere in between, unless you are looking to do turns/climbs in tight, steeper terrain (Koms) or more touring with some turns involved here and there (88's). The Voile Objective BCs or the Madshus Annum or Fisc...

Re: Hard wires or NTN? And what ski?

I would get the AXLs over the VICE bindings if you plan to tour/climb at all. The AXLS perform just as well as the VICEs on the down but the AXLSs with their free-pivot are much better on the tour or up track.

Re: Challenging spring snow/base structuring at home

Not a hipster hack, but I find that really getting at the bases with a brass brush and lots of elbow grease can get you some good structure.

Re: Hard wires or NTN? And what ski?

I have to agree with the advice here. I would not switch boots, I would use a ski similar to the ones mentioned (mid-90s waist, not too heavy), and I would mount them with AXLs or Voile 3-pin hardwires.

Re: Pictures, pictures and pictures!

Great stuff Merak! Nice snow, nice photos, nice terrain. It would be a horrible waste to not ski that as much as possible. The weekend is NEVER enough for skiing.

Re: K&G with G3 Targa... feasible? Binding location?

IF I remember correctly, those Havocs are pretty stiff, especially in the tip. I would not want to break trail with a stiff ski and an active(ish)binding because I would think the tip would dive, like you described, especially when climbing. Hoks are pretty much made for breaking trail: fat, soft, m...

LJ: First, I love the Lionel Richie on the mantle. Second, is that you in the ski video in the other thread with the ridiculously long poles flapping around?

Re: Spike 3 pin issue

This does sound like a weird issue. We use the Spike 3-pins with Excursions and have not run into this issue. Is it both boots or just one? Make sure you've got them on the correct feet because I found that if I was able to enter one binding fine but the other would not click in when trying to enter...
