Re: wax vs scales vs XSkin vs klister

Something to think about regarding skins. If you ever need to traverse steep hard windblown slopes you may need wall to wall kicker skins. With a narrow skin, if the snow is hard enough, only the edge will contact the surface and not the skin and you get no grip at all. Very frustrating. Ski crampo...

Re: wax vs scales vs XSkin vs klister

Forgive me if you already spoke to this- how much truly steep (i.e. 60+% slope) climbing you going to want/have to do with that ski? In other words- you going to climb anything steep enough that the 45mm mohair won't be enough grip? Also- how much more climbing grip does the 45mm nylon kicker skin ...

Re: Wax Question

Skins shouldn't stick too hard to the ski, you're looking for a tacky connection to the ski, not a full on glue where you're struggling to pull the skin off the ski... that's a problem. If it's not sticking AT ALL then it could be the skin, does it stick differently on your other skis glide section ...

Re: Wax Question

Are these downhill skis? Or are they XC skis and if so are they waxless (they have scales on the bottom?) or are they wax skis (which require grip wax)? If they are downhill skis with storage wax you should scrape it off with a heavy plastic scraper. Apply new wax, scrape, and then brush. There are ...

Re: wax vs scales vs XSkin vs klister

My experience suggests not to rule out the 30mm mohair yet on that ski... I tend to always err on the side of glide- moving to more grip if absolutely needed... There is a lot of conditions where the 35mm on that ski is going to blow away the 45mm. As far as the nylon- blah. Yeah it's more durable....

Re: wax vs scales vs XSkin vs klister

So today as I wait for my MRI I took out the Green Man 54 and tested three skins: 30mm Mohair 30mm Nylon 45mm Mohair The 30mm Mohair was the control on the right ski for every comparison. Snow conditions was 5" of fresh snow heavily infected by hours of sleet Heavy, dense, very slippery snow wi...

Re: The Finest Leathers: Nordic Norm 75mm Backcountry/Telemark Boots

Hi Al, I'd appreciate a lesson on tying the cuff tight and keeping that way, any magic tricks? I have found they always loosen up after a few Kms, and the first thing to go is the tongue that loosens up quite a bit. There was a discussion a few years ago, but I found that low-stretch laces helped i...

Re: Really New Skis

I just got a new-in-wrapper older pair of Vectors with smooth bases, after loving my Vector BCs for the last four seasons. Just like the Vector BCs, I have Switchback X2s on these new Vectors. I took them out for the first time yesterday, skiing the chopped up SnoCone man-made at good ol' Belleayre...

Re: WTB - First Tele Ski

I haven't skied the Vantage 95C but I owned a pair for a few months, then sold them to a local ski patroller as a second pair to his first, he absolutely loves them. Round medium flex, some rocker up front, standard sidecut, pretty straightforward ski.
