Re: A theory...
y'all sound like a bunch of wine sippers. guzzle. Nothing being made that's fat is for BC. You cant travel 15 miles to and from a place on fat flat lead weights. If all you are doinf is skinning straight up some ridgeline to the straight downiest place, then young and strong can get there if you pu...

Re: A theory...
I hear you Harris. I have to agree with you: I'm ****ing sick of seeing BC skis everywhere. It seems like all ski makers are only focusing on that stupid BC craze... Phallus-shaped 12lbs full rocker skis. And people are buying!!! I just can't stand that anymore. Gonna kill someone. Good quality, sk...

Re: Ski pole length; pointer.
MikeK... I noticed you are from NY, and being that you are probably primarily an East Coast skier I can fully understand having little interest in bumps. My sister lives in Bridgton ME. Once a year I go out there to ski for a week with my niece and nephew, usually at Shawnee Peak, Sunday River or Lo...

Re: Ski pole length; pointer.
MikeK... Yeah, if the hands are down and pole tips are back and single pole plants are made to initiate turns it really doesn't matter exactly how perfect the whole thing is. I used to race, and was later a competitive mogul skier, so yeah, I'm kinda anal about pole planting. But... My point was try...

Re: Ski pole length; pointer.
Connro... I personally think that like alpine the steeper and/or more difficult the terrian the more good pole technique is absolutely critical to properly initiating a solid turn and if the arms are up, and the poles are stabbing, there are some serious flaws going on in the basic technique departm...

Re: NTN versus old style bindings
If you are a low skier looking into NTN consider that they don't flex as deep. I was an old school deep knee skier and made the jump to NTN some years ago. I love the control but it does come at a certain cost, mainly you have to adjust to them. And although when watching a NTN skier it may appear t...

Re: Of boots and such...
Okay, since someone is making a point to call the new guy out... I'm not the Seattle dude Mike is thinking of. I'm new this year to the Seattle area just as I am to this forum. I don't know who that guy is. I grew up in Steamboat. Started telemarking there as a 14 year old in 1983 who luckily went t...

A theory...
For years the telemark industry has been pandering to the backcountry at a cost to the front and slack country, and that is where the AT industry is killing our trade. I know a bunch on here are BC die hards, but there are no small number of tele heads out there who mainly resort ski, and ski these ...

Re: Of boots and such...
I would actually say that with the old early 80's all-leather Asolo Extremes, and the later 80's half leather/upper plastic cuff Merril Supercomps I could turn the skis much quicker and with more precision (and with gobs more style) on groomed slopes and even in zipper-line moguls than I can in any ...

Ski pole length; pointer.
I don't mean to tell anyone how to tele, but one mistake the less than expert folks all seem to do is that they struggle with their pole technique (it always makes me cringe seeing someone with pole tips forward and up, thinking they will put an eye out or something). Whether on telemarks or alpine,...
