Re: Fischer S Bound 98 and Madshus Epoch

Hi Mike K - Im curious about your experience with your Glittertinds and your E99s I don't find the Glittertind all that slow to tour with. The E99 is perhaps a bit quicker, but if it is, not enough to write home about. I can't tell you for sure because of the difference in length between what we hav...

Re: Madshus Glittertind

I would like to review my Madshus Glittertinds (68/55/62), which I have used for 4 years in Colorado, in conditions ranging from wind blown high altitude crust and sastrugi to heavy wet snow in the woods. I am 5'10" and 167 lbs. I have 180 cm waxless Glittertinds with NNNBC bindings and I use Alpina...

Re: Altai Ko'm vs. Voile' Vector BC (and Rossi BC 125)

Many thanks for these very useful comparisons (and for the private email you sent me addressing my related questions). This is especially helpful for me because I am planning to get some skis that are wider than my Annums for use in Colorado spring snow. I am happy to hear (from your private email) ...

Re: Vector BC eludes my thinking

I find that I use skins much less with the Vector BCs and find myself on steeper terrain more often with them than on other skis like Guides, etc. IME, the scales climb nearly as well as skins in many/most snow situations. Where do you ski ? That probably makes a big difference. Here in Colorado we...

Re: Voile hardwire and switchback binding comparison

Hi Mike - I have looked through all my notes and I am not able to find the reference to the comment by Dave Mann. Since you suspect it may not be correct I am worried that I am remembering it wrong. I will modify my original post to include only references that I can actually find. Sorry about that.

Voile hardwire and switchback binding comparison

A little over two years ago I bought Madshus Annums with Voile 3pin hardwire bindings. Part of the reason I chose these bindings was to see how much difference a cable would make for the kind of low angle touring that I do. Since many people using Voile 3pin cable bindings report that they do not ev...

This link tells how to fit a tele boot http://www.nstelemark.com/NSTelemark/Telemark_Boot_Fitting.html There are several statements which directly address your fitting questions. Re: questions about Rossi BC125 versus Madshus Annums

While the name of a ski may not change, there can be huge variations in the ski itself as the model evolves. For me this was brought home by my Karhu XCD GTs. Steve Barnett, who was instrumental in originating the whole XCD concept, loved the 1991-92 originals which had a traditional Nordic shape (6...

Re: questions about Rossi BC125 versus Madshus Annums

For just rolling trails I will definitely use my Epochs. I bought the Annums two years ago primarily for steeper trails, but I now find that I am also using them for rolling trails which take me to places where I can drop off the trail and do some steeper downhill runs through the woods (aka "tourin...

Re: How Steep is Steep?

I skied for several years on Madshus Epochs with NNNBC bindings and Alpina 2150 plastic/leather hybrid boots at the Lake Eldora ski resort in Colorado. The resort has an engineering report which lists the pitch of all their runs. The report says that slopes less than 5 degrees are "too flat for skii...
