Re: Pictures, pictures and pictures!

Intriguing. I've never skate skied (other than on my alpine skis at a downhill resort) but have thought I might enjoy it. The typical recommendation for skate ski sizing is 10-15cm shorter* than classic skis, so would you go shorter or longer on E89s if you wanted to be able to use them on-trail (mi...

Re: Pictures, pictures and pictures!

I figured all that. I was implying choosing one system binding (either NNN or NNN-BC...not switching between the two) and then switching between one system binding and one 3-pin binding. I assume (maybe wrongly) that the screws for NNN-BC and 3-pin don't line up. So you'd need 5 screw inserts for ea...

Re: Pictures, pictures and pictures!

Yep. I've got the E89 or E99 on my list. Without getting too off topic in this thread, I wonder if anyone's tried Binding Freedom/Quiver Killer inserts on skis like these. No - but any particular reason why? To switch between NNN or NNN-BC for on-trail and light-duty off-trail and 3-pins for more r...

Re: Ski size

I don't remember what they were called but they make Hoks look long. I think the word you're looking for is "snowlerblades." :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DA7wtfoGqi0 OH yeah, we banned those things last year... http://skivermont.com/skivt-blog/2015/04/01/vermont-legislature-to-ban-ski-blades/...

Inserts on XCD skis

Very nice Muggs. Just FYI - if the edgeless XC skis aren't doing it for you, there are plenty of skinny metal edge skis out there. They are quite a bit heavier but I actually like them better for skating. Yep. I've got the E89 or E99 on my list. Without getting too off topic in this thread, I wonde...

Re: Pictures, pictures and pictures!

Not XCD...but I wanted to share these photos I took of the beautiful Afterglow Lake Resort up in Phelps, Wisconsin (buried in the Nicolet National Forest) on New Years Eve. http://i.imgur.com/X6StS1i.jpg http://i.imgur.com/DYzdJP2.jpg I was on my Fisher Ridge Crown XC skis for the first time in a co...

Re: Karhu pieces of history. Any interrest?

I haven't even halfway mastered the skid I've already got, but I am very interested in seeing the inventory and price list!

Re: Ski Dogs, Leathers, and Finally First Turns

Nice! Things are getting decent here in Southern Wisconsin as well. Once the lake freezes over, there's a route I can take to work that incorporates a sledding hill. It'll probably be a perfect situation for easing into leathers with my S-98s.

Re: How many of you ski with your boots in "Walk" mode?

I (intentionally) skied in walk mode over the weekend in my Garmont Libero boots. I'm not experienced enough with these boots yet to really tell a huge difference in control, but things went just fine. I think I'll give "walk only" a shot as it's much more comfortable when I'm not in the skis (and i...

Re: Ideal living locations

Haven't been to Asheville since the late 90s, but it has always seemed like a cool town (western NC in general, too). But I don't ever want to live in the south again. We are in Burlington, lots to do right in town. Lots of places to work. $$$ housing. We make it work... I used to live in a small to...
