Re: FYI: Jay Peak is closed till further notice

Good question... and I'm not sure about the skinning policy. Below is a post I copied from BC Talk; it was posted last night by a local here who skis and skins up there almost daily. Post is from last night: "Jay Peak just announced they are shutting down the resort, all lifts stop tomorrow. So last...

FYI: Jay Peak is closed till further notice

Yup... just happened. All employees, all staff, instructed to leave. You can guess why. I'm simply posting this in case any of you were thinking about heading up there, not to add to the current freak out situation.

Peace (and wash your hands!)

Re: Old 3-buckle boots enough to edge 99mm waist ski?

I've never skied NTN, so can't speak to that, but the T-Race and Vice's are more than adequate to drive the skis.

Re: advice on ski selection and other things

Like Rongon, I love the skiing in the High Peaks & vicinity; it was my home turf for 20 years.I fact I was just thinking about the Avalanche Pass trail a couple of days ago... still one of my very favorite trails anywhere. Lots of good advice has been offered, I'll just add my take on each question....

Re: Front-Half Skins

Hate to see a thread with no replies; first is no, I have never heard of using a skin forward of the kick zone. Second, about using skins over kick wax... quite commonly done. That said, I draw the line on blue (assuming Swix colors), or maybe blue extra. Wouldn't really want to try it on anything s...

Re: Hot waxing with polar?

Not wanting to butt in here for Canna, but don't want to leave the question hanging either, so my take on it: If you're using the polar for glide, scrape after hot wax. I'd do two applications; wax and scrape the first (and brush, if convenient... but not a necessity). Wax, scrape (brush optional ag...

Re: Tele bindings on Objectives, consensus?

"Im surprised that every one says they're iffy in hard conditions, they seem much stiffer to me than sbounds. I suppose its all relative" There's relativity involved, for sure. One of the beautiful things about the Objective is it's very light weight, enhanced with a nice flex and pretty nice torsio...

Re: Hot waxing with polar?

"Phoenix, it sounds like it's a little easier and quicker than doing the tips and tails with glide wax and better than just corking" Yup, and more versatile for tweaking your wax options. "It made me think of all of the times towards the end of long tours when I thought my skis were slowing down, bu...

Re: Necessity of wax-iron

Just like Al said ( I wrote a long post 10 minutes ago, but must have forgot to hit "submit"). Lots of bones, stones feathers, and a warm hearth here too. That's some magical country you live in, too... I've spent some time around there.
A warm belated welcome, Lolo.

Re: Tele bindings on Objectives, consensus?

The boot/binding combination is fine; I ski the Objectives with Spikes and Excursions for all round BC stuff, though they do have limitations for more DH oriented BC stuff and/or difficult snow. Then, I'd take my Waybacks mounted with BMD Bulldogs, and the Excursions. I wouldn't want ski the Objecti...
