Re: Ski Review: 2018-2019 Åsnes Gamme 54 BC

For the guys that have these skis for a while and put some decent mileage on them: Have you found that the flex softened up over time? I've been struggling with grip the few times I've been out on them and wondered if they have a "breaking in" period that I need to work through? The ski conditions h...

Re: 2019 ALFA Guard Advance GTX M Boots Review

I've been thinking of this duality lately. Perhaps we are still lacking the perfect material to be used as a midsole that is 1) sufficiently stiff, 2)light, 3)insulative 4)durable? We can go super uber stiff and super light: kevlar fiber. We can go super light and insulative: EVA foam or similar. T...

Re: 2019 ALFA Guard Advance GTX M Boots Review

LC, you are right about the softness of Alfa boots (and the skarvet). This is the main complaint I have read over and over on scandi forums (the other being the addition of the heel cup that does not work for everyone). Sole stiffness wise, I certainly feel the same way about my Alfa Quest Advance ...

Re: boot rocker?

I wonder if having a rocker sole and a flat binding would increase the likelihood of the toe section delaminating? Probably depends how stiff the sole flex is. Does the heel contact the binding when weighted? FWIW My Alfa Skarvet also have a flat sole. I imagine the Alaska may feel more natural to w...

Re: Ski Review: 2018-2019 Åsnes Gamme 54 BC

Took my Gammes out for their first proper go last night, thought I would add my initial thoughts. Firstly, this ski seems to be exactly what everyone said: nice and fast, pretty forgiving and a bit too fat for the tracks  I did a 12km loop that I normally do on my XC track skis and NNN boots, t...

Re: NNN vs NNN-BC on 50ish waisted XC touring skis

I have Turnamic NNN bindings on my Rossignol skis which are 65-52-61 and have 3/4 steel edges, so not that dissimilar to the Mountain Race skis (albeit shorter and with fishscales). They are ok for light stuff, but the few times I've used them in the mountains (icy traverses, longer downhills) I hav...

Re: Daughters & wife ski upgrade opinions

I've got a set of the Rossi OT65 which I've used a fair bit. They are a nice ski, narrow enough to fit in even fresh cut tracks but still wide enough to have a bit of float when there's a bit of fresh snow. The waxless pattern extends over a large part of the base, meaning the grip is good but they ...

Re: Permanent integrated Skin in BC skis Sporten Explorer Skin

Having used a friend's set of skin XC skis that were over the suggested length for me and having poor grip when kicking, I would be cautious about going too long. Unlike a wax ski, you can't simply extend the kick zone forward, so following the manufacturers weight/length chart would probably be sen...
