Re: Really New Skis

I just got a new-in-wrapper older pair of Vectors with smooth bases, after loving my Vector BCs for the last four seasons. Just like the Vector BCs, I have Switchback X2s on these new Vectors. I took them out for the first time yesterday, skiing the chopped up SnoCone man-made at good ol' Belleayre....

Base Repair for Fish-scale based skis? (Madshus Annum)

Hey, it's time for skiing! YEAH. So yeah, I went skiing, in the backcountry even. But... I hit a rock (what a surprise), and I gouged a pretty nice hole in my well-loved (and well-used) Madshus Annum skis. It's right in the middle of the fish-scale area, just reaching the wood core. Does anyone have...

Re: What alpine skis are people using for telemark?

Alpine skis I've mounted with telemark bindings and skied: K2 Merlin III -- I wouldn't recommend them, but they got me started. I had Voile 3-Pin Hardwires on them. Skied them with Crispi CXT (2-buckle) boots. The worked surprisingly well with kick wax, but they were total noodles. They're long gone...

Re: Help A Northeastern Trail Runner & Backpacker Build His First Nordic Backcountry Set-Up!

Boots are a nightmare for my oddly-shaped feet. I can't even get the straps and closures on Fischer NNNBC boots to close around my foot! So I have to use the Italian welted leather boots. You are not alone. I'm sure I have felt your pain. Either that, or I feel pain that is pretty similar. My solut...

Re: Tele vs parallel.

Just coz it's sorta on-topic... I remember going skiing off-piste on a day with about a foot of fresh, into the thickets, fairly steep. I was with an acquaintance who is a much, much better skier than I am. I was on my redoubtable Annum/Switchback/CXP setup, he was on Rebounds/pins/leathers. This fe...

Re: How short for Glittertind?

My intended use is off-trail skiing in the woods when there's soft snow, with a lot of hacking through what most sane people would classify as "impassable." Is that an all around beater ski? I'm thinking of getting the wax-base version, no fishscales. They tend to run better, so maybe the 190 would ...

I guess for me, 190 would still be 'skiing them short,' which is what I'm after.
Thanks for the quick reply.

How short for Glittertind?

Hey Glittertind experts, I talked a friend of mine into getting a pair of Glittertinds years ago, and he's still enjoying the heck out of them. I guess it's a good ski. I don't have a skinny ski I like. I have an old pair of very stiff Karhu Pegasus, which I don't much like much. So my question is, ...

Re: Nordic backcountry setup for above treeline

I skied a pair of Fischer Outtabounds (88mm tip, 68mm waist, a lot like the Excursion 88) to death over the last 10 years. I bought them as my first 'big' ski for bushwhacking and trail skiing. I got them very short for negotiating the wicked narrow trails here in the upstate NY/Vermont backcountry....

Re: Vector replacement- ideas? V6/UltraVector something else?

My $0.02... After a couple of seasons on my Vector BC skis, I can say that they ski really well in a 'too short' length. I'm about 185 lbs and ski my Vector BCs in 170 cm. Yes, they're shorter than recommended for my weight, but no, they don't fold up under me and they do float well enough (I don't ...
