Re: Ski base cleaner formula

For klister, the trick is to set the skis outside to get as cold as the weather allows, much easier to scrape. IMHO klister is just not worth the hassle. In the conditions that require klister, I use skins. If I were in rolling up/down territory, then kicker skins. Perhaps a bit more weight to carr...

Re: New leathers--crease control

I won't get surly with Mink oil, Rod. Pretty sure what it is. "Alchemy," for me is scientific sounding names used not to inform but lead the listener to give up and assume the speakers is ontop of a complex scientific understanding, so they don't need to. It all erupted for me once when trying to f...

Re: Ski base cleaner formula

One of the best ways to find out the composition of a chemical like this is to check the SDS (Safety Data Sheet). This is a document that the manufacturer has to provide to industrial / commercial users of the product to ensure they understand the composition and thus what risks it may pose to work...

Re: Ski base cleaner formula

R I think the swix stuff is based on a mineral solvent like nafta gas. It’s harder to find I think cause the stuff releases a lot of harmful gas and requires special transport. Look up the Safety data sheets for those products for clues. But Ben, what does free trade have to do with solvent? Is NAF...

Re: Ski base cleaner formula

I've used a basic citrus cleaners in the past. Worked fine and no damage. Thicker gel types are less messy. I'd scrape as much wax off as you can first, just to make it easier for the cleaner to work. I’m with MSU, I use a product called Goo Gone. which is readily available in my area. It’s safe en...

Re: Ski base cleaner formula

You can also use a heat gun/hair dryer to warm the bases, then wipe with a paper towel - a lot of wax will come off that way with less need to use chemicals. I normally only give mine a full deep clean at the end of the season before I put them away for the summer. I know, but since you still use i...

Re: New leathers--crease control

The Mink Oil goes where you WANT the crease, right? To soften and allow? In the day, leather was either "chrome tanned" or "oil tanned." Chrome tanned got no oil but wax (Snowseal). Ancient history? I do have a strong aversion to proprietary woo-woo alchemy. If they can't tell me precisely what's i...

Ski base cleaner formula

Does anyone here knows the formula of a basic ski base cleaner? Funny... If you search on the net, you'll find 2 types of answer: —«don't do that, hot scrape instead» (based on a very very intelligent syllogism; base cleaner are harsh, will harm your skis...) That' complete bullshit. Bases are made ...

Epoxy: mea culpa...

Hé, I need to apologize. Bri7 told me about the epoxy... slow cure and rapid cure. I tend to associate slow cure with quality and rapid with cheap... In fact, the 5 minutes epoxy that I had was really cheap and bad (Lepage). If you compare comparable quality epoxy, that's another story...

Re: Closest Asnes Equivalent to the Gamme?

Yes. I have a mantra of "You've got this, you've got this" going downhill in less than perfect conditions on the MR48s. "You've got this, you've got this, you've got this." There's a tipping point with my skill where it's just safer for me to simply concentrate on keeping my knees and glutes soft a...
