Re: Asnes Mountain Tour 51
Alaska looks gorgeous! Good to know you could make turns with these - there is something about the softer edgeless tips I really like. It makes the MT51's a comfortable ski vs. a pure XC ski. It goes over bumps & chunky stuff smoothly because of the tips flexing. Not surprised that makes it easier t...

Now, is it likely that you will eject right over a brothel in friendly territory? Is it likely they'd be out of condoms? Maybe, maybe not....but do you really want to be "that guy"?  pretty funny but condoms also have many uses - they're waterproof, could be used to keep medication dry o...

Re: What do you carry in day packs? Backcountry XCd
I'd add herbal medicine (congrats to our friends in Arizona, Montana & New Jersey  ) and a down jacket. I've got a down jacket I squeeze into a small stuff sack, barely takes up any room. If you're laying in the snow with a leg injury these are the first two things I'd want. On alpine tours...

Re: Which Asnes model for Colorado backcountry?
For me the question would come down to making telemark turns down the mountain - trying to get some powder turns or enjoyable downhill turns as part of the tour. If yes then I would prefer something like Nansen or Nato Combat. If not, then the E99/Gamme type ski all the way. The best choice for long...

Re: help me find a 3-pin 75mm boot that won't explode here in the hills
>>What is your personal favourite- the Antarctic vs Rifugio? that's a difficult question - very nice workmanship on both of these. I would have to say Andrew is in a class by themselves, the leather itself is incredible, very thick and plush-feeling. Conforms to your feet faster & better. But the bi...

Re: Alico NNN BC Boots
wow, congrats....what a find! Mint condition!!! This harkens back to the day when Merrell was also making one-piece leather NNNBC boots. So you have the same Alico boot now in NNNBC and 75mm?? cool! I'm guessing these were on ebay in Europe?

Re: help me find a 3-pin 75mm boot that won't explode here in the hills
simple answer to this question - Crispi Antarctic (and "Bre" or whatever it's called) and Andrew Rifugio. Rifugio being a little heavier and beefier. Vastly better than the glued 75mm soles and only slightly more expensive than those boots.

Re: hemiboreal forest skiing in New Brunswick Canada
Gareth's comments are spot-on....I enjoyed skiing a pair of 200cm E99's because the camber got squashed down and they flexed like an old-school tele ski. But the camber is stiffer on the Gamme, I don't think a 200 would act like a tele ski, it would act like a too-short XC ski.
