Re: New rant... Backcountry/wide skis and telemarkers

So why do people run a ski designed to float when for 90% of it's expected use it will suffer turning efficiency in general conditions. BECAUSE it makes them feel like Scott Schmidt, Daron Rahlves, Seth Morrison-- they are sitting their lives in a cubicle dreaming of powder days, they buy the ski t...

Re: wax vs scales vs XSkin vs klister

I don't think there was anything to apologize for? I find this interesting, can you describe a bit more? Was it on the flats or in climbs? 30 or 45mm mohair? Since the shoulder I have been farming the frozen lakes and have not seen hills in quite a bit of time, so it would be a worthwhile reference ...

Re: Voile Objective BC Skis and Super Lite Skins

It's weird that the ultra vector and the V6 are still covered for tele bindings and the Objective isn't. I would think they were the same layup. All Hyper skis, Vector, V6, etc. AND Objectives are (for the time being) not recommended for telemark. The Obj is a Hyper construction. That being said I'...

Re: Fischer BCX-5 or Alaska BC? Choose wisely

Well... I didn't know they were competing with the Alaska... it depends on your values. The Alaska is the best. I am sold on mine ten ways to Sunday. It is built better and it probably has a stiffer sole with more torsional rigidity. But you may not need it for the skiing your are doing. This is you...

Re: Info on old model Fischer (brown) BCS 5 and Fischer Spider

WOW where did you find that!? Ok, a little sleuthing: 77 - 61 - 69 So basically the Sbound78/Traverse 78 but probably without the nordic rocker. That would be a great out-your-door ski. The 199 will make it fast and supportive. I would certainly take it for myself, and you should be even better on i...

Re: Info on old model Fischer (brown) BCS 5 and Fischer Spider

Nordic rocker gets better with a longer ski because there is more running surface. Even the Gamme's have nordic rocker. It definitely helps in soft snow, and lack of glide is not noticeable in these conditions. The less glide from nordic rocker is apparent in firm snow conditions. The 109's are very...

Re: Info on old model Fischer (brown) BCS 5 and Fischer Spider

Woods, how would you rate the classic kick & glide performance on consolodated snow of the 78 & 88- and how would it compare to your E99 and Gamme 54? Oooh good question. They both have good kick, but they don't "carry." The carry of a rowboat is when you stop rowing how far does ...
