Re: The narrowest class of XCD Skis

Yeah. I really want these skis. If I didn't find a pair of old Bonna Conquest (a reunion with my first love :D ) I would have also purchased these from SportAlbert. Next season for sure.... Looks like you got the 35 mm skins, not the 45 mm. That would be my choice for those skis. In my limited exper...

Re: The narrowest class of XCD Skis

Great input. Interesting stuff. I agree with your summations, and I also use an e89 class ski most often as well. I was humming-and-hawing about a pair of Asnes Mountain Race 48 in 210 cm from Sport Albert as well, but decided I'll hold off for now. I spent too much $$ on equipment this year. Next w...

Re: The NNN/BC Truth Thread

I did multi-day tours in the early 1990s with NNN-BC with a heavy backpack and no issues - and NNN-BC boots and bindings were not nearly as good as those available today. Many others have too. The current thinking among the Alaska Mountain Wilderness Classic crowd is to ski Voss or Glitterind skis w...

Re: Fischer E-109 vs. Asnes Ingstad

I absolutely love the Alpina Alaskas, like many others here. Admittedly, I was focused on Crispi or Alfa boots - which would have cost substantially more $$$. And, I was thinking that I would need seperate boots for my e89/Voss class ski and another pair for my e109/eon class ski. Turns out the Alak...

Re: Fischer E-109 vs. Asnes Ingstad

Mike, sorry to hear your sick. Hope you are feeling better soon. No need to live vicariously - move to Whitehorse, Yukon or Anchorage, Alaska. The potential for XC, BC/XCD, or AT skiing is endless - lasting until May if move into the alpine in the spring. Paddling, hiking/backpacking, cycling, as we...

Re: Fischer E-109 vs. Asnes Ingstad

Tom, More questions when you get the chance as I know you've been out on your skis. Mine are stored in the basement until there is sufficient snow for sliding and cold temps for waxing :( Anyway, what have you found having them out and about? How do they slide? Float? What kind of wax pocket are yo...

Re: Attn: Athabascae

Mike, I posted a response to your questions in the e109/Ingstad thread, as I thought that made the most sense.

Re: Grizzly Bears

Good story. It happens. That stuff is not something you want to get hit with. Think about it - if it can stop a 300-900 lb brown bear dead in its tracks, it can sure mess you up too.... Don't know that bear spray brand, but I see that it has 2% active ingredient (capsaicin), which is what I look for...

Re: Grizzly Bears

Tom, that close encounter I had with the griz was while paddling. After the experience I got some bear spray and also carried a shot gun. I never took the spray skiing but if I felt I may encounter a bear I would take it. Most of my spring skiing is above treeline where it would be unlikely to surp...

Grizzly Bears

I just saw that there were some earlier questions on another, unrelated thread on bears, so I thought I'd respond to them here, on a new thread.... I am interested in wildlife biology. What's the grizzly population in the Yukon? I live in Montana (Yellowstone ecosystem)--estimated grizz population a...
