Re: wind chill factor

I Wind Chill Factor is total bullshit Are you saying that you do not believe you lose more heat in the wind than in still air? Basic thermodynamics will tell you that you do lose more heat to moving air than to still air. Or are you saying that the numbers quoted as "wind chill factor" are inaccurat...

greater detail on the snowpack is available here: http://cdec.water.ca.gov/snow/current/snow/ There is a massive amount of data available, it takes some time to figure out how to wade through it. The key things to look at are the snow sensors, which have real-time information on snow water content a...

Re: ski Mt Lassen this summer. 2023

Don't wait til June. Late April/Early May is the best corn usually, and the snowpack is generally stable by then. I have not been to the top on skis but have circumnavigated the mountain on skis. I've come in from the north and the south to Lake Helen area. From the north, we started at Manzanita La...

Re: 75cm Tescoma Weiner Sticks

Nice - looks good for the wiener portion of the meal. But for the marshmallow toasting for the S'mores portion of the evening, have you tried a Rolla Roaster?

The rotating action is ideal for getting that nice, even golden brown.

Re: FS: BD Ascension Skins / (Great Falls, MT, USA)

Can you tell me what the inside width of the tip loop is? I might be interested but I'd be cutting them down to put them on narrower skis. Looks like that loop would probably work but I'd want to be sure. Thanks!

Re: Which Fischer ski for BCXC/XCD on firm/icy snow conditions?

Go short! Like way short. In firm condtions you won`t have to worry about glide or flotation; all you have to think about is grip and being able to edge hard. Turning is all skidding in those conditions. My experience with Atomic Rainiers (very similar to the old Fischer Rebound) skied with Garmont ...

I would love to hear what the folks at Alfa think about putting a 75mm sole on the Frees. After all, once they make the upper, they can glue any sole they want onto it.

Re: Glue for boot repair

Whichever adhesive you use, it will pay to do all you can to get any old adhesive off of the two surfaces you are hoping to adhere to each other. Otherwise, you will be sticking your new adhesive to old failed adhesive.

By the way, fun discussion! Feeds into my favorite jones of thinking about what the boot companies SHOULD and COULD make if only they would.
Thanks Al, and Happy New Year!
