Re: What is the closest you have come to buying the farm skiing?

Not skiing, but learning to ride snowboard. Not buy the farm, but probably acquired 10% of the farm that day. This one looked stupid, but felt concussive. Coming to the end of a run, slowing down on my heel edge. As a novice, did not grasp how slower speeds require progressively more pressure come t...

This might be an area where 2 skis with some overlap would make sense.
Another pair for the quiver?... a solution that's always en vogue.

Re: Brutal crash thread

Salisbury, Connecticut had a ski jump competition once a year. I remember going a few times at night in years past. Almost everyone had a bottle of spirits in their jacket to keep them warm. (You know the crowd.) Even with the bitter cold nights of February, it was always a fun time. Didn't know muc...

Re: Best tele ski for east coast resorts.

There was a time when ski makers made asymmetrical skis for telemark specifically. Scotty Bob and Igneous, to name at least two at the top of my mind. Good call. Guess I just don't wrap my head around it. On the lead foot, the uphill edge bites the snow better with inside edge of ski, which works f...

Re: Live from Whitegrass

Speaking of rollin' coal (from a previous thread), that's Appalachia coal country. Never visited that area in the winter time, but Fish got me interested.

The Elan Ripstick 88 is blowing my mind this year.
I was considering this ski a couple years back, but didn't know much about the asymmetrical design vs. telemark. Glad to hear it works well.

Not sure I’ll ever do some of these trips but I sure enjoy thinking about them
and the photos and write ups are a definitely a great resource.
It's all in the stoke. I prefer to get excited about stuff I may/may not do, rather than do stuff I never get excited about.

Re: Ski area traffic

...a gondola system is out of the question. I didn't see the routing and spacing of the towers as an issue in either the small bouldering fields or the slabs on the canyon walls. Now it appears that they will head up and widen the canyon road to the extent that they can. For the LCC discussion/deci...

...the long way south via I25 to US 24 to CO 9, but usually a wide open drive... Google Maps recommended this for the drive into Leadville (not CO 9, but you know what I mean) . Wide open is a fair assessment. 1.5 to 2 hours longer from DEN airport, but super chill drive. Wifey gets stressed with c...
