Re: Scales vs. Kicker-Skins
Scales don't work on ice, which I assume is what you were skiing on, given the temperatgures. Kicker skins might be easier than ice klister, which is probably the wax you would use.

Re: SNOW!!!! whatcha got? (Redux w/ pic)
10 inches at Bluewood (4500 ft). Thursday night. 16 inches Saturday night.
None in Walla Walla itself. Looks like the snow level is about 2000 ft. here.

Re: Skis too long?
I don't know where you are, but it's easier to learn good xc striding technique in groomed tracks, if you have any nearby. For that, you would need narrower skis. If you don't want to buy, you may want to rent a few times.

This post makes me wish I was younger and was physically up to the elevation gain here.
Next time you are in the area, you might want to check out Harriman State Park for some nice scenery and xc skiing.

northwestern travelers
I can't find the thread, but I remember someone mentioning they were planning on traveling in the northwest and were looking for places to camp and ski. The event below may be of interest (I won't be there). Anthony Lakes has parking for campers with an Oregon or California snow park pass. https://w...
