paulzo, that is a brilliant suggestion, wish I’d thought of that one during my rehab time. When I was pool walking there was some degree of that (sloping shallow to deep) but doing it out of water would be super beneficial.

Re: Weak ankles due to minor accidents
Yes TallGrass, it was definitely worth it and going beyond where I was before the injury was an added bonus.
If weight bearing is an issue go somewhere (ocean, lake, pool…) where you can use flotation as an aid. I spent a lot of hours doing this, it was worth every moment.

Re: Weak ankles due to minor accidents
After a severe twist a few years ago my Doc suggested barefooting and minimalist shoes. My recovery was quick, my feet, ankles, and calves strengthened, and I grew a foot size from 43 to 44. I wear the majority of my ski boots without insoles (or very thin one). I haven’t rolled an ankle in years pa...

Re: Alpina Discovery 80 reviews?
Getting back to the Discovery 80’s, I remember them having a pretty stiff camber. If I was to go for a pair today I’d seriously consider going at least a size down so that I could compress them and utilize the scales more effectively.

That’s correct, tips and tails are metal free. I assume the intention is to keep you in the track on downhill bends maybe?

Re: Which ski for steep downhill narrow trails with a 50 lbm backpack
I’m watching this one with interest as we seem to ski somewhat similar terrain. The Ingstad Capercaillie mentioned is a good suggestion. I’ve used mine on a lot of the terrain you’ve mentioned and I’ve liked the responsiveness of them in different situations. The Hoks are a useful ski but for the to...

Re: 2024 Alpina Pioneer TECH XP Backcountry/Telemark ski boot review XPLORE
To date I haven’t had any issues with these boots. I figure I’ve got about 80 hours in them so far this season. They’ve loosened up a bit to the point I can use the insole with a thin sock if I want- I still prefer a thin (or no insole) with a thicker sock, it feels more comfortable for me that way....

Peltonen Metsä Step 270
This is a very different creature when it comes to fun in the snow. I’ve been out in various conditions the last couple of months and find them an interesting diversion from the other skis in my arsenal. The majority of my time on them has been with the Alpina Pioneer Tech and a couple of outings wi...

Re: Length: Mountain Race 48 Skin
I’m in the 100 kilo range @ 183 cm tall and find myself wishing mine were longer (I have 210’s). These are great for warmer weather when waxing is a pain. The 210 waxer MR48’s I picked up last month are noticeably quicker on a Swix Blue kinda day and have a smooth as a hot knife through butter kinda...

Re: Fischer Traverse Boots for Xplore Binding
Interesting, 2nd Xplore boot in the last week to show an issue. Just had a look at my Traverse, no sign of failure there. Before attempting to repair them I’d contact and send pictures to Fischer AND take it back to who you purchased it from…if it was mail order I’d send photos to whoever you purcha...
