Re: Thrift Store Finds

I need to move to a place with better thrift stores! I don't have pics but at Goodwill I got a pair of "broken" REI ski poles, one was shorter than the other so I got them for $1. Yes, they were adjustable and just adjusted differently :P Then found a pair of new T2s at Savers for $5 but they were s...

Re: Fischer Scale Patterns

Not sure where you live but there was a guy with 189 Outtas on Massachusetts c-list with 3pc bindings for $60 last week. I know this because he also had a smaller pair I bought for my wife :D Mine get a ton of use and with Mountaineers and Excursions (or Asolos) they turn just fine. Contrary to mode...

If you go the chisel route I will tell you go out and buy a kevlar glove for your off hand :D Let's see if this works (from my last chisel attempt;

Re: Shims for Alpina Alaska 3-pin

At one point I couldn't find any smiley plates and my wife's pin holes were pretty beat so I did use shoe goo to rebuild that area of the boot. It actually worked well enough that I used it on a couple other pairs as well, dries up quite hard and certainly harder than the rubber. The only thing I do...

Re: Strange XCD setups

"I've also seen Asylums (115 under foot) with 3-pin bindings (no risers) and scales cut into the bases." I have pins and risers on my Mitos and am borrowing a router to try to cut scales, but they're only 69 underfoot. I can see this though. And I'll probably go with release plates just because in t...

Re: Backcountry ski expeditioning

I love poles too. Have my original BD advance poles and BD Traverse poles. Last week I was doing one of my bi-weekly recons at a local Goodwill and in the corner sat a set of "misfit" poles that nobody wanted, probably because they were different lengths. Yeah they were adjustable, REI Ultralight Sh...

Re: Serious XCD question about turns

My friend is on Guides with cable bindings and uses parallel turns, while I'm on pins and Outtas and use tele. Mostly we're in tight trees where you're maybe getting 20 turns as you're touring around. In that environment a lot of the game is mental. not mechanical. My friend is more confident turnin...

Re: All purpose backcountry/bushwack ski

Thanks StormyMonday and MikeK. How do the Excursions compare to the SCARPA T4s? The T4s are cheaper. :-) Ugh almost 1 AM and I'm online and wide awake, dang. Here;s a quick tip that I learned tonight - if you're removing NNN BC bindings and you can't get the cap off the top screw, and you happen to...
