Re: NNN-BC on-piste?
hey, yeah i got out maybe 10 times to our huge, intimidating, heaven-tickling "mountains" here in michigan last winter. you might recall me thinking about (and making minor attempts at) going for stouter gear after my first few days. but ended up just doing those days on the waxless eon's and alaska...

Re: BC Nordic for The Babies (!?!?)
hey satch, no real advice for you here, other than encouragement that getting them going young seems to be the ticket. i only really got into all of this because my ex's dad was a huge ski bum and she was skiing at 3 years old in the driveway. that took and she passed that passion on to me. so yeah,...

Re: join the cartel :)
hahah, yo satch, yeah i tend to agree with you. the xcski sub is pretty lame. there is a backcountry skiing one, but doesn't get much traffic. our little corner has a meager 6 subs right now, but it's fine if it doesn't get any bigger. really it's just a place i can post consistently and hope to mee...

join the cartel :)
hey peeps, so as many of you know i have always been trying to find others around me to join in some skiing/camping shenanigans. in that light i have created a reddit sub as a place for michigan adventurers (or midwest) to try and put group outings together. if you are a michigan/midwest folk then p...

Re: is it time?
such a heartbreaker yesterday... came back up north after thanksgiving to find all the little precious snow we had completely gone. i had high hopes on the weather as they were calling for a big winter storm starting last night and into today, supposed to bring 4-6". well, we got nothing. not nary a...

Re: Another "help me gear up" thread
try to stick it out and avoid the skate ski setup. i wold think that very quickly you would reach the upper limits of that gear and would experience failures and frustration. but who am i to talk? also, imho, plastic would be the worst mistake you could make. if you have feet issues then as you know...

Re: How far can you travel, cross country, on ungroomed terrain, in one day?
60 miles in that terrain....let's see. factoring in vodka breaks, smoke breaks, and an occasional actual rest, i figure around 4 days in perfect conditions. more like 5 since i don't like to actually work when i tour. i think some people could probably do it in 2-3 days with no gear and not a lot of...
