Re: Fischer E-109 vs. Asnes Ingstad

Thanks. I got them in 200 cm, which is what Asnes recommends for my weight (195 lbs) and it was all I could find. I do think that 210s may have been too much ski for me - wish they made 205... Asnes says either NNN BC or 75 for the Ingstad, and Fischer recommends NNN BC for their e109, which seems s...

Re: Update from the XCD Knights

So far as we can tell, if you want a Voile quality ski for XCD, buy an Asnes. Yeah, if I got a fat ski (maybe next year) I'd probably think pretty hard about a shapely, lightweight 188 cm Asnes Storetind (103-68-93, 2250 grams) with super teles and excursions. I could imagine having a lot of fun do...

Re: Fischer E-109 vs. Asnes Ingstad

My Ingstads arrived today. I can't ski them for a bit yet because I need to decide on a binding system (super teles or NNN BC magnums???), and my knee is currently a bit busted. I wanted to see the skis before I decide, because I think the width is such that they could easily go either way. My mind ...

Re: Fischer E-109 vs. Asnes Ingstad

Yeah taxes still apply, but they do so also if purchased in your home province or territory.

From what I can tell, duty on skis (if you claim they are exercise equipment) is pretty light - around 5%, so it seems - but don't quote me on that. Duty on boots is another matter, about 20% :o

Re: XCD Vacation: Where would you go?

Well, I think to drive from upstate New York to Yellowstone in 9 days is pushing it. Its alot of time driving, and there would only be a few days for skiing. Even then, I'd be tired once I got there for the first couple of days - which would affect my willingness to spend long days touring and enjoy...

Re: XCD Vacation: Where would you go?

I've never been to Yellowstone in winter, but it'd probably be great - lots of scenery and wildlife. If in the lower 48, I'd also think about Colorado or the Tahoe area. A large part of my work is currently focused on studying bison in the wild, so for that reason alone, I'd be clambering to get to ...

Re: What was your biggest help in learning telemark?

1) wanting to be a downhill skier on traditional xcountry ski tech; 2) and being a long-distance xcountry skier that wants to tour in mountainous terrain. This is an important distinction; but they are not mutually exclusive, and some do both with ease. However, at this point in my life, I'm firmly...

Re: Time Travel

Very little industrial-type logging has happened in the Yukon (we're too far from the larger sawmills and markets); but, lots of firewood harvesting near communities. Trees are small here because of the harsh growing conditions, as well as much of the territory has been burned in the last 100-150 ye...
