Re: With whom do you ski?

I ski alone. The last partner (moved) I had was many years ago when I skied in avalanche terrain. Now my focus is low angle (less then 30 degrees) and I stay out of run-out zones. I enjoy skiing solo because I like the solitude, quiet, observing nature (e.g., wildlife tracks), assessing terrain and ...

Re: Which bindings and should I even use these skis

gitrinec: I have backpacked in the WInds in the area you are talking about, but that was in the fall. I have a hard time trying to visualize winter conditions and so I will only make a minimum of suggestions. Be prepared for the worst, have comfortable boots, use skins in good condition, bring a PLB...

Re: Which bindings and should I even use these skis

gitrinec: Where are you going in the Wind River range and when? I am familiar with the trails outside Pinedale. I would think that matching your equipment with the demands of the terrain would be important? Also, time of year would dictate the snow conditions. If conditions are really bad, you can a...

Re: Midwidth Ski Measurements: Eon/S78/Ingstad

Mike: Thanks for this informative post. You obviously have a keen grasp of the science (ski physics) and are able to demonstrate this understanding through your charts and graphs. Your interpretation is also helpful. I am going to think about this post for awhile because the physics of skis/skiing i...

Re: What is your preferred go-to BC setup?

I use XCD. I ski mostly in YNP(northwest area/Big Horn). I ski on the Eon (waxable) mounted with HD voile 3-pin bindings (no cables); I use the first generation brown, Scarpa t-3 soft plastic boots.

Re: Plea to Americans!!!

Mike: I posted a rant but it didn't appear. I will do another post because this issue of ski etiquette is important. Like connyro, I try to seek out quiet, untracked BC terrain. However, if you have to ski in an urban environment, it is hard to avoid the culture of narcissism. It seems like so many ...

Re: XCD Vacation: Where would you go?

Mike, I don't think you would encounter many people in YNP (Big Horn or Fawn Pass) so Presidents' holiday is ok. Presidents' holiday is on the 20th in 2017. You would encounter more traffic on HWY 191 especially from Bozeman to Hwy 64 (Big Sky) turnoff and more airport traffic. You are probably more...
