Re: Ideal living locations

Mike: I lived in Bend for a short time in the early 80's. I have no idea what it is like now, but I remember liking the outdoor opportunities. Durango is a smaller community than Bend but with many outdoor opportunities. If you are a trust funder, you can live anywhere. If not, the economic opportun...

Re: Integrated kicker skin- feeling a little underwhelmed

I purchased some Asnes skins for my new Asnes skis. I decided that I would stick with my current set-up because I can remove my skins without taking my skis off. I don't think I could do that with the Asnes set-up? With each lap I would have to remove my skis to take my skins off. My skins are mohai...

Re: Breaking in new leather boots

Another option would be the Alpina Alaska: http://www.orscrosscountryskisdirect.com/alpina-alaska-75mm-backcounty-touring-boot.html Leather boots have to fit correctly and still they have a long break-in time. Saddle soap can help soften, but obviously can't fix a size/fit problem. Mike mentioned pl...

Re: Deep, wet, and rotten

Sounds like the kind of nasty snow that kick turns were invented for. Heavy snow can really mess with your body, especially your knees-ACL injury waiting to happen.

eco-friendly glide waxes: Winkwax and Purl wax

Last season I tried the WInkwax. I didn't like it. The conditions were cold and I found that my skis glided better without any wax. It might work better in warmer conditions?

Re: How do you wax for the backcountry?

My waxing strategy is to use little or none: double camber/skinny skis: I use blue wax and if that doesn't work I use approx. 3/4 length, narrow Colltex, mohair skins. Madshus Eon/Madshus Epoch (sold)/ Asnes Kongsvold: no longer using any glide wax or kick wax because of concern about ground surface...

Hope this guy doesn't drop his knees so low when he is skiing? He is going to end up having huge knee problems: Tuck the knee not drop it to the ground.
