Re: Size and Ski Question

Micah E.--I was out shoveling 2-3 inches off my sidewalks in Walla Walla this morning . I might check out the golf course later. If not, later this week looks promising.

Re: Pole Length

The standard I am famiiar with is armpit height (for classic XC). I am 5'7' and use 140 cm poles, so 160 cm sounds reasonable. 165 cm might be better if a pole that long is made.

Re: Backcountry ski tour in Norway: boot question

NNN-BC boots certainly don't all fit the same. Try a different brand (if possible). I got rid of my Alpina BC-1550's when I found the Rossi BCX-6 fit perfectly.

Ski for Light Feb 9-16

I don't know if anyone else has been to one of these events. It involves sighted leading visually impaired skiers in xc, classical, track skiing. It is a week commitment of time (for skiing!), and a substantial amount of money as well, but worth it if you can afford both. I am posting this since the...

Re: Talk me out of wax skis (combat)

I have skied the 88's on unbroken snow near here, and they are just as fast as my Discovery 68's. However, I couldn't say that they were significantly better at trail breaking. I haven't skied the '78s. I was up at Horseshoe Prairie on Tuesday and there were tracks on some of the trails (which were ...

Micah E, your pictures look at the route from the Balloon Tree road snowmobile trail to Spout Springs (but could be anywhere).

Re: Talk me out of wax skis (combat)

I live close to you and also xc ski in the Blue Mountains. I ski on waxless skis (Alpina Discovery 68), but I think waxable skis would work fine here, as the snow is powder and temperatures usually consistent in the 20's until March. In fact, metal edges are of marginal use. The other thing you ment...

Re: Traverse 78 Binding Recommendation

This sounds more like xc skiing to me, not much different than what I do. I would find boots that fit first, if possible. The fit will make all the difference in the world. I don't think you have any need for plastic boots, given the type of skiing you are talking about and the skis. I think you wou...

Re: Fischer Excursion 88 vs Outtabounds - Newb

I currently do similiar skiing on Alpina Discovery (vintage 2012) skis in the NE Oregon Blue Mountains, but Have tried the Excursion 88's (available for rent here). I like the Excursion 88's and would buy them if I needed skis and/or the Excursions were available at a sale price. They are just as fa...
