Re: First post, intro and a question about shortening Asnes kick skins
Today I tested the new skins on my Asnes Holmenkollen and there was a definite improvement in glide...then I rewaxed them with blue glide and blue kick wax and aaah enjoyed the way a ski should glide. Now I'm ready next weekend's trip.

Thanks for a great info. Yeah. I'm not worried too much. I think I'm just impatiently anticipating a "new ski day"

Re: The Åsnes Thread (News for 2018-2019!)
Wonderful. Welcome to the forum. No hurry but I was curious what the turning radius of Asnes Breidablikk is? (the white top sheet canine model)
I'm getting a pair sent to me (should be enroute...) and I was curious.

Re: Baxter State Park Traverse South to North
Thanks, glad you liked the report. :-) I'm in Portland area ... have been pretty much for the past 30 years. Mane is an exceptional outdoor playground. We just returned from a weekend at Penobscot River Trails, Katahdin Woods National Monument and even made a beeline to the border's Nordic Heritage ...

Re: Snowshoer Gone Skiing Help
IMHO your quest description and followup answers are on the point with the exception of commenting concerns about skiing on hardpack. IMHO you should look for a second pair of skis to ski resort snow with plastic boots and skins. In general, you need the beefy heavy boot to push the edges into hard ...

Re: First post, intro and a question about shortening Asnes kick skins
The mohair skins from Neptune arrived today. The difference in width is significant. That's good news I think. I will test them soon.

Re: Maine Huts Trail Thru (without the huts)
Could have been wolves...what do I know ... but officially there are no wolves in Maine. I think the closest consensus you'll get from biologists is a CoyWolf.

Baxter State Park Traverse South to North
My previous trip report touched upon where I met my ski friends and as I fondly reminisced about that trip I figured it might be of interest here at the ski forum. My mileages are estimates. I'm just ballparking it. The whole trip is about 40 or 45 miles. Baxter State Park ski thru, known to many fi...

Re: Maine Huts Trail Thru (without the huts)
I carried a winter sleeping bag, a lightweight tube tent, one foam and one insulated inflatable mattress, 2 packets of freeze dried food, two packets of biscuits and 4 packets of oatmeal. Honey and lemons for hot tea, 4 tea bags. extra bottom wool layer, top wool layer, hat, baclava, spare OR furry ...

Re: Maine Huts Trail Thru (without the huts)
It does help that your friends are triathlon athletes ;-) but it still worked out just fine. I did get ahead of them on flats but not by much. We rejoined at most forks and at all road crossings. Their skis were a better choice for the first section from West Forks to Grand Falls because they were s...
