Re: Alpina BC 1600 Boot

Up to a certain point, I agree- stiffer sole-flex gives better power transfer and better support and stability- However- a lot of traditional Nordic ski technique- both XC and downhill- requires sole flex, sole flex that allows one to feel and pressure the ski through the BOF and the toes. There has...

Re: Alpina BC 1600 Boot

It uses a 3.0 mm full grain leather (my Stetind have a 2.4-2.6) and a kevlar reinforced toe-box. Wow. Alpina told me the Alaska is 2.6-2.8mm leather. And I always assumed that the Stetind would have thicker leather than the Alaska for some reason... The sole flex is stiffer than both the Stetind an...

Re: 2015 Åsnes Combat NATO

The Ousland must have easier turn initiation and a shorter effective edge than the Gamme-
I was amazed at how much tip rocker the Ousland has- even more than the current E-99 Xtralite!:

Re: 2015 Åsnes Combat NATO

You are right about preference being a major factor. I have read a lot of people being very happy with the Nansens. I just feel its no better in powder than the Gammes. I have decided to be happy with Ingstads for everything playful and get a pair of 210cm double cambers for distance. Probably Gamm...

Re: 2015 Åsnes Combat NATO

Lil Cliffy, this might have been covered already but anyway. For multiday trips in variable terrain could the Combat NATO be the ultimate compromise? I love the Gammes when they float but sometimes they dont. The new Ingstads are killers going down in powder but feel squirrely on the hardpack. Sinc...

Re: Falketind 62 Review

Well, I just had a nice day with the FT62 in its natural habitat, rolling terrain and soft snow. What a pleasure, what a dream! Perfect mix of K&G and downhill control. Would love to see a waxless version too! (I know I'm not the only one asking for this!) Hey Woods- Cool to get a report from you o...

Re: Hot waxing with polar?

I use an iron to hot wax Swix Polar grip wax when I am using it as full-length- or heel-to-tip base. (I crayon and cork Polar when I am using it as a kick wax). I hot wax Polar for a number of reasons: 1) better wax absorption/retention. 2) better finishing/polishing 3) I actually find I waste less ...

Re: Front-Half Skins

The very short skin on the tip would allow you to get away without scraping off soft kick wax or klister. Interesting idea! Let us know how you make out with this! BD's Nordic skis have tip loop that is specifically designed for a narrow, traditional Nordic ski tip: https://www.blackdiamondequipment...

Re: Front-Half Skins

I agree with Pheonix as far as skin on grip wax- I draw the line at Swix Blue- I scrape off grip wax any softer than Blue before putting on a skin. I am curious as to what the snow and temperatures are like that you are having negative experiences with the integrated kicker skins... (I am generally ...
