Re: How does one deal with deep, wet, sticky snow?
Thanks Harris, that's a helluva lesson. No scales on these skis (BD Havocs), but thanks Fisheater. I haven't been brushing the wax out of the structure. I'm certain there's too much wax on the base. Both trouble days involved new snow with a lot of water, temps just above freezing, incredibly cohesi...

How does one deal with deep, wet, sticky snow?
Twice now I have been completely defeated in deep wet (fresh poured cement) snow. Skinning was pretty miserable and downhill was worse. I've seen others ski this stuff, so it's obviously possible. Both times I was on 88 under foot skis... maybe that was mistake #1. I didn't do any special base prep....

Re: I hate my bindings
Skied my latest Craig's List score last night... 174(ish) Super Stinx with G3 Targa T9s, these are wedge equipped. Wedges help on the downhill for sure, add noticeable boot flex on the uphill (annoying). I like the Super Stinx. Very confidence inspiring, easy to control. At some point, I need tourin...

Re: I hate my bindings
So I tried Paul Parker's free heel parallel technique tonight. Weight the uphill edge of the uphill ski, then roll onto the downhill edges and carve your way into the fall line and beyond. What a light bulb moment. That just works. I still don't like my bindings very much, but I guess I can live wit...

Re: I hate my bindings
I'd wondered about this. Thanks for confirming that thought.Rodbelan wrote:With an under-the-boot cable bindings, it is less of a problem. When I use my T2x (lots of rocker) I prefer that later kind of binding.

Re: I hate my bindings
I've got three pair of skis now with G3 targas (Craig's List addiction). Two of these are mounted without wedges. The latest set, which I have not skied yet, have wedges. I am going to try these later this week... if that solves the problem, well, I know what to do. I'm plenty big enough (180) to se...

Re: I hate my bindings
Paul Parker alludes to this edge catching issue in his chapter on alpine turns, so I am obviously not the first to discover this. He suggests a different, smoother, approach to the alpine turn wherein one weights the uphill edge of the uphill ski firmly, then switch edges, let the skis come through ...

Re: I hate my bindings
Excursions, old T2s. Wedges don't seem (in the few cases I've observed, admittedly very limited) to help in the long run. Boots seem to end up in the same place, with elf toes as a "bonus". I'm a beginner and I'm not good enough at tele to tele turn exclusively. I fall back on alpine a lot. If I wan...

I hate my bindings
Is there a relatively low stiffness 75mm tele binding with tour mode that puts the heel of the boot on the stop in neutral? Does it weigh 5# and cost > $300? I'm really tired of fighting rocker launch.
