Re: Does baking/molding liners make them pack out faster?
What is wrong with the home oven technique when done right? I understood Intuition recommends the rice method for home and i assumed that was because they did not want to take responsibility (or similar) for mistakes. My take is that the rice method is safe but close to placebo...far from a properl...

Does baking/molding liners make them pack out faster?
Not that it wouldn't still be worth it for fit, even if baking/molding does make liners pack out faster. I've run into this claim a couple places, that the molding/baking process, even if done exactly right, makes the liners breakdown faster and they pack out faster. It was my experience that the ol...

Re: Wide waisted or girdled?
...I think for resort area, even if skiing side-country going all fat is a serious handicap. Good to know I'm not way off base going with a more versatile 95 waist ski like the Lo5 that is good on hardpack. I should try harder to schedule some skiing on a demo day if only to know more about what I'...

Re: Wide waisted or girdled?
Harris, are you also concerned about turning radius? From your other post about carving and your racing background, I'm guessing you're pretty dialed into the feel of a ski's turning radius, and you're reluctant to go to a straighter fat ski for pow that won't have a fun radius (as in shorter turns ...

Re: NTN newbie, should I get the Meidjo 2.1 or Outlaw X ?
...one of the main reasons I'm going to NTN is to get the advantage of a step-in binding which the Freeride isn't really... Be aware the Outlaw and OutlawX aren’t really step in either if you value ski brakes. The brakes on the Outlaw are hard to use and balky with other problems. The people I’ve m...

Re: Black Diamond 01 binding
...The controversy was about the advent of the Black Diamond Pitbull (with the springs in the front, a feature of RDesign) which seemed at the time to be a copy of the HH. Nothing to do with the 01. Sorry about that. No offense... No offense taken. I remember the Pitbull vs, RDesign controversy you...

Re: Black Diamond 01 binding
I still see them available from various outlets if you want to stay with the O1 www.backcountry.com has the "black-diamond-o1-telemark-ski-binding" in size small on sale for $209.96 and the larger size may be available somewhere too. What do you like about it that you want to find in the next bindin...

Re: 22 Designs Vice/AXLE limitations.
Meidjo can definitely be set to be as close to neutral as Voile Switchbacks (or nearly there). And can't the Rotte ones be set fairly low tension too? Outlaw on setting 1 is a bit stiff, but you can remove the inner spring to get it a little softer. Regardless, Axl on 3 is burly... The Rotte Freedo...

Re: Tele vs parallel.
I love doing carved P-turns on tele gear. I also love doing T-turn carves too but have wondered in the past why my P-carves are deeper and cleaner than my T-carves (same gear). Harris may have answered my question, since I'm able to have a cleaner carve with all my weight on one ski, whereas in a te...

Re: Quiver Killers or 2nd Ski Kit?
Installed Quiver Killers on four pairs of skis early last Winter and have had no problems. (Two pairs each for two skiers.) It was a lot of work to do properly, especially because the NTN Freedom bindings use eleven screws/QKs (!). To me, QKs come into their real value when your binding of choice do...
