The P-tex sticks can actually be ignited.
The tricky thing about a repair in the groove is that you will need to remove excess P-tek to make a curved surface. Probably you will need to grind with a Dremel tool. It's easier to deal with the flat part of the ski, although also more critical.

There is some technology involved in making wasless skis as opposed to waxable. Asnes clearly has not made a large effort to develop this technology internally. Madshus previously also emphasized waxable skis, but from writing here, appears to have made significant progress with its MGV+ pattern and...
